Packing - Is there a packing secret that I need to know about ??

Because currently, I don't know where to start.

I have my own case, and so do the dd's, but ds's stuff is being shared between us all.

All I have done so far is open the cases and throw in stuff like swimming costumes and that is it. The I stood staring at the cases wondering what what to do next.

I am planning on packing most clothes on Friday night/Sat morning, as the kids will be at their dads then.

I feel like there should be some sort of plan.

I made one of these (doesn't take five minutes) and it's very good for going away. makes all your clothes look like they should be on a shelf in a shop!

i fear the effect is lost when your tshirt is scrunched in a ball from the tumble dryer...

I'm lovin that T-shirt folder furball.

To get more in, make sure to interleave the clothes, do not just pack them in piles.

I second what St George said - spread everyone's stuff between the cases so that you have a good selection of stuff if one case goes AWOL.

if you are taking the lotion, lip balm, bottled water (and any other liquid/aerosol/gel) on the flight, you need to check the current regulations - as far as I know in the UK you are still only allowed to take them in quantities of less than 100ml each, in a clear plastic bag

(same elsewhere - had to put lip balm into a clear plastic bag in Sydney, hadn't even occurred to me it was covered by the rules)

really not worth trying to take bottled water through security....

On the day of travel:
Make sure all electrical appliances are not switched on or plugged in.

Throw away any perishable goods you have in the fridge.

Lock all windows and doors.

Turn water heater and heating down to lowest setting or change timer to once a day.

Leave shades down and drapes closed.

Park your car either in a garage or buy a special steering wheel lock for maximum security.

Secure all your pieces of luggage with a small lock and put keys in a safe place. If you?re worried about losing your keys buy a lock with a code number instead.

Double-check that you have all your travel documents: passport, visa and tickets.

Don?t forget to take these items in your hand luggage: paracetamol, bottled water (buy a bottle in the departures area of the airport, once you're through the Security Checks), a book, lip balm, lotion and anything else you?d need on the flight.

If you're travelling with the little ens, it's also a good idea to pack 'Travel Packs' full of games, crayons, books and snacks for them to open on the plane.
