Regular visitors, so looking for something different this weekend for me, DCs (15 & 10) and Granny (70+ but reasonably fit).

Places we have been:
Bowes Museum
DLI Museum
High Force
Durham City (castle/cathedral/riverside etc)
Kilhope
Blanchland
Derwent
Kielder
Alnwick castle
Beamish
Metro Centre
Science Museums in Newcastle
Sunderland Air Show (on this weekend I think but forecast rain and Granny not interested)
and lots of other places I can't think of right now so sorry if you suggest somewhere we've been before.

If you know of any special events, that would also be fine. We'll have a car. Thanks.

I don't remember Meander. Remember Mr Juniper, he was brill, tho I was crap at art. My mate had a HUGE crush on him (lovely tho he was, he wasn't fanciable IMHO but my mate always did have a strange taste in fellas). Also remember Family Units. I was our FU rep on school council and chaired the school council for a couple of years. Yawn Yawn!! But Meander means nowt to me.

Ewww, he was not fanciable!
Great teacher though, as in nice teacher, I was always crap at art and still am! I did like larking around in pottery though!
Apparently Family Units were only done at one other school in the North East and were thought to be quite progressive. As a Mum now they do sound a great idea.
Is Meander a shop maybe? Definitely doesn't ring a bell with me at all.

wordgirl · 27/07/2008 19:24

Yes, Meander was a Mugwump-style shop - full of Indian print skirts and joss sticks. It was on Elvet Bridge (near Klute )
Yes I remember Mr Juniper too though I was crap at art and dropped it at the first opportunity. I did mainly language A levels and have fond memories of Mr Adamson who taught German. He took us to the Travellers Rest for a drink after our A levels.
Not such fond memories of Joe Robson although I was so bloody scared of him I really learned how to conjugate French verbs for fear of getting the cane and can still reel them off to this day!

muggglewump · 27/07/2008 19:40

Klute.
I went there at 16-17. It was less strict than Rixys (Cueball).
Joe Robson, now he was the scary old guy. Mr Featonby too?
I'm not sure who would have been there when you were there so I'm going for the older ones!
Miss Wright the PE teacher?

mrz · 27/07/2008 19:40

Bede's World at Jarrow
Belsay Hall
Killhope Wheel

lilolilmanchester · 27/07/2008 19:53

Miss Wright, remember her only too well. She was "good friends" with the head of Hawk, won't mention his name incase I get done for libel. Mr Adamson OMG he was drop dead gorgeous. I did O'level Russian in 6th form ONLY so I could spend more time drooling over him. Joe Robson - told me and my mate off for talking in every French lesson but I quite liked him. Didn't know Mr Featonby, perhaps just after my time.
My fave teachers: Mr Tilley, Mr Blenkinsop, Mrs Scott, Mr Lupton. Won't mention my least favourite cos that's not fair

Mr Wintersgill would be Miss Wright's erm friend?
Long gone when I was there but rumours insisted they were caught in a cupboard together! I'd have sworn she was gay!

Mr Tilley, I remember, he was head of Condor, and Mr Lupton was head of 6th form and after Mrs Campbell my favourite teacher.

Were the Fireman ghost at the top of A Block and Blue Baby ghost stories circulating when you were there?

I getting all misty eyed not just at thinking of my schooldays, but that I can't move home

lilolilmanchester · 27/07/2008 21:52

Couldn't possibly comment re teacher liaisons!!! Mrs Campbell - was she Geography? She was lovely but new and very nervous in my time. Don't recall any ghost stories. Would like to live back here myself but we're settled in schools where we arenow so unlikely to happen.

Klute? Oh my lord ....

muggglewump · 27/07/2008 22:36

Mrs Campbell was history and head of Falcon. Very nervous though, I got away with all kinds!

And yes, Klute..., I'm almost ashamed to admit I went there often, almost....

Loshad · 27/07/2008 22:53

Klute bl*dy h*l there's a blast from the past.
Thingone the mising word on your card (almost certainly still in french postal system) is souhait

ThingOne · 28/07/2008 12:01

What card?

StealthPolarBear · 01/08/2008 21:16

I went to Klute about 4 years ago. We were the oldest people in there, and hated every minute (and it was £15 to get in - never used to be that expensive!). Shame as I used to love it.

geordieminx · 01/08/2008 21:17

Yeah but you are 73 SPB - What do you expect???

StealthPolarBear · 01/08/2008 21:19

£15!!!
(I don't think I actually bought a drink - can't afford one now I work full time, as opposed to being a student)

geordieminx · 01/08/2008 21:21

Has anyone suggested Anwick Gardens? Bit of a hike but worth it?

I went to Park View in Ch-le-st
