haven't been myself but someone working with my sister has been to the Girasole one and recommended it. We were thinking of going there last year but did something else instead. It is very big I think though....

Girasole is huge. Two ends to the site, each with two or three restaurants, a supermarket and a pool complex. It feels more like a large village than a campsite. To be fair, it's all good quality, and the pool at the top end of the site is perfect for toddlers. The restaurant food was good too.

The thing we didn't like about Girasole is the local area. Yes, i know it's on the edge of Chianti, which is gorgeous, but the valley the site is in is really nothing spectacular - quite industrial in places. The main towns along that valley are really not the best. Florence easy to get to though, Siena about an hour away.

We went to Parc Albatros last year. I liked that site. Not as huge, and mostly under pine trees so quite shaded. Had a lovely peaceful atmosphere when we were there and the pool's very good for toddlers. Nice beaches near there, walk through the sand dunes to get to them. San Antonio nearby is nothing special but there are local villages in the hills which are pleasant to drive to for lunch and a short stroll. San Gimignano about a hour and a half, Volterra an hour. Roughly.

Haven't been to Le Pianacce sorry.

Depends what you're after. We wanted culture and towns to visit, duomos etc, so would go back to area between Florence and Pisa along the autostrada. We stayed at San Baronto near Pistoia - I'll find the name of the campsite if you want it. Small place, not as flash as Girasole or Albatros but ok, and better located.

And that's Pea's Preach on Tuscany

V. jealous.

THanks Pea! If you have the name that would be great.

Anyone else?

Anyone who has been to Pianacce?
