Is it easy to get to the Hammersmith Apollo by car or is tube best?

We are going to see the Wiggles on saturday afternoon. We are not sure whether it would be asier to drive directly to the venue, or get the tube from Redbridge. We are coming off of the M11, and I've done a route map, but these generally aren't a great indication of how long it would really take traffic wise etc. Anyone have any suggestions or experience of this pls?

Traffic will be awful and parking will be worse - I'd go by tube tbh.

I think I'd prob tube it. Drivign right way across London is going to take a while, and then you've got to walk fromt he car park. The tube is only a few mins away.

Oh my God, don't even consider driving!

My husband is taking our DS, too (by tube!)

ChopsTheDuck · 02/07/2008 14:11

if you do drive, parking isnt that bad in the shopping center.

artichokes · 02/07/2008 14:12

Parking in Hammersmith is hard and the traffic around the roundabout can be a total nightmare (it once took us 25misn jsut to go round the roundabout).

Hammermith station in on 4 tube lines and is right next to the Apollo.

Thanks all. Is there a better station to park at than redbridge? It makes me laugh, the multimap said it would take 1hr and 45mins door to door to drive from Cambridge.
Mrs mattie, what row are you ds and dh in. I can't bloody wait.

Another vote for tube here, it could take you 1hr 45 just to travel the last couple of miles if you are unlucky (my Dad once spent that long in a traffic jam around the roundabout when I lived there).

Dunno about outer London tube stations but you'll need to take the Piccadilly, District or Hammersmith & City tube lines. From your side of town, suspect parking near the other end of the Piccadilly line or Central line and changing would be a good idea.

Tube - parking is a nightmare. You can park on street in KEw and get District line from Kew to Hammersmith in about 10 mins

AllieBongo · 02/07/2008 14:23

I think we'll just go to Redbridge. It will be much easier. Thanks for all your advice

you are driving from cambridge? Why on earth would you go to redbridge then? If I was coming from cambridge, I'd go round the north circular and then come into hammersmith on the A4. It will take you forever if you want to drive them park then tube across london.

Kewcumber · 02/07/2008 14:34

You can keep going on North Circ until it becomes South circ, park in Kew (about 25 minutes quicker than driving into Hammersmith on a busy Saturday pm) then 10 mins on tube to Hammersmith underground then 10 min walk to Appollo.

If you cat me you can even park in my road and I'll make you a cup of tea if we're in after the show!

edamdepompadour · 02/07/2008 14:35

It'd take her forever to drive round the N Circular and in via the A4. Blimey, could be stuck in a traffic jam for hours. DO NOT DO IT, Allie. Honest, I used to live very near to the Apollo, don't even think about thinking about it!

artichokes · 02/07/2008 14:35

I am with Chops. Cambridge to west london on a4 yakes about 90mins. Come off the A4 at first sign for chiswick. Park in chiswick and take tube to hammersmith.

Kewcumber · 02/07/2008 14:38

can you get to willseden junction/Tottenham Hale or any trains that connect to it - then get north london line to Kew or Gunnersbury and change to distrcit line to Hammersmith.
