we are taking the DSs to London on Saturday to go to the Science museum and the Natural History. We will be ariving at Waterloo - what is the best way of getting to the museums? Would prefer bus really as I am scared slightly anxious about taking them on the underground.

It takes about half the time by tube and personally I'd jump in a cab but if you want to bus it you will need to first take a bus to the Aldwych and then from the south side of Aldwych take Bus 9 from bus stop R to Hammersmith Broadway Bus station, and get off at Exhibition Road.

In terms of buses to Aldwych you can take either 4, 26 or 172 from bus stop F or 68, 168 or 171 from bus stop K at Waterloo.

The TFL journey planner can sort out all such requests.

thanks.

Hadn't thought about a cab but there are 7 of us (including baby) so we'd have to get 2 cabs anyway wouldnt we?

Probably will have to go on the tube then...

how about walking over Westminster Bridge and getting tube forom there? Wouldn't have to change then and the boys could see Big Ben and Parliament (although they have no idea what they are... )

If you go to the Butterfly exhibit within the NHM could you post back and let us know what its' like. Youngest is mad keen and wants to go, but I'm not such a big fan of moths and I think you have to walk through an open bit

And the TFL website is brilliant for journey planning in londin, even down to what time you have to be there

London

Butterfly exhibit is beautiful, but they are flying freely so may land on you! Also it is very small and i'm not sure it was worth the money TBH.

butterflies would probably be a bit scary for my wusses of children

Thanks all - will report back next week

Thanks. My year old will love it. I just go cold thinking about the moths. Silence of the Lambs anyone ?

stroppyknickers · 03/07/2008 12:46

we went by train to Victoria, then got a C1 bus from round the corner, nr Starbucks, and got off half an hour later outside the V and A. Easy (and i had 4 kids with me incl a buggy and a lazy toddler...)

Tommy · 03/07/2008 13:12

half an hour stroppyknickers? Shouldn't take that long should it?

Our train gets into Waterloo anyway

If your train stops at Clapham Junction you would save time by changing trains there for one going to Victoria and then getting tube from Victoria to South Ken - I presume the tunnel is currently open that takes you right from the tube station to the museums, so you don't have to cross Cromwell Rd.

Tommy · 03/07/2008 13:33

that's true Lilymaid

can't believe how anxious I am about it!

Think it may be 20 minutes. Quite a long time anyway. Remember that the Launchpad (for older ones) in the Science Museum is on the 3rd floor. The garden is in the basement. The earthquake (red zone) natural history is fun...

honeypot01 · 05/07/2008 07:26

has details on website on how to get there
