Rude waiter in Majorca

We were having an early evening drink in a bar in Palma Nova when a woman on a nearby table asked the waiter why it was quiet he replied "it's October, people who come here in October can't afford to buy drinks"
What a cheeky twat, we were thinking of eating there but after that thought forget it and went elsewhere

If I understand correctly he wasn’t speak to you or directing his comment to you, he was answering a direct question based on his experience?

Whether you agree with him or not, it wasn’t rude. After all you were drinking in October so he wasn’t referring to you? Who are you offended on behalf of?

Were you under the impression that people who make their living from tourism love and adore tourists? 😆

Oh gosh I would of laughed at this

To be fair, if you analyse the situation, it was daft of the other customer to ask why it was quiet. How would the waiter know why people have decided not to come out on that particular evening? It's just making conversation really isn't it? I work in a shop and regularly have people comment 'it's quiet here today isn't?' when in reality I've been rushed off my feet and they've happened to come during a few minutes when there's no other customers in.

Sounds like he was making a joke.

How’s your Spanish ? Would you be confident that when you spoke in a second language you would get the meaning of what you were saying over correctly all the time ?

Over reacting and over sensitive

He has a point. I recall my repping days and October was an odd month. A lot of people were on tighter budgets then, sales targets always dropped. However compared to September when the child free couples came in their hordes with plenty of cash to spend.

DropEmOut · 16/10/2026 11:06

Odd reaction from you

I love going on holiday in October it's good to have a break before the weather gets horrible in the UK. It's nothing to to with cost for us just personal preference.
But I wouldn't be offended by the waiter's comment or decide not to eat in the restaurant because of it!

BoomerWatkins · 16/10/2026 11:55

That remark wouldn’t even have stayed in my brain for more than a few seconds let alone 12 hours. And then to post about it! Do you ever worry about your happiness op?
