Passport Advice - WWYD?

I have only just received DD's full birth certificate after a total faff ordering it and can now send off her passport application.

We go on holiday on 27th July, the passport office recommend the 2 week check and send service but this does not guarantee return within two weeks. Or we can spend the extra £40 and do the one week fast track service.

Also, it doesn't say how long it takes to send back the supporting documents (my passport!) that I will obviously also need before 27th July.

What do you think we should do? I just can't make a decision on it, am useless.

I would be safe and do the quick one. I recently sent off DDs renewal and had letters twice as I hadn't filled the form in correctly. Each letter delayed it by an extra week!

TheBlonde · 30/06/2008 20:24

Do you have to send your passport? I thought you just had to write the number in?

MissingMyHeels · 30/06/2008 20:25

Oh no, I don't think I could cope with that, will have to go into London to the passport office.

MissingMyHeels · 30/06/2008 20:26

you don't send your passport
we got dd's in two weeks but make sure there aren't any mistakes and good photo

Ambi · 30/06/2008 20:27

Yes theblonde is right, you don't need to send your passport, just enter the number on the form.

LIZS · 30/06/2008 20:27

Can you fast track a first one ? Check and send is normally ok , mine took 10 days.

lilyloo · 30/06/2008 20:27

mmh there is a section to put your passport number in well that's what i did with dd2 passport , her first !

MissingMyHeels · 30/06/2008 20:27

Yes I can but it's £40 extra and it's a 40min train journey + tube with my 3 month old baby that I would of course avoid if possible. However, I don't think it is worth the risk after all, so will have to.

I would go to the office myself. I had forms returned to me recently because the date of the endorsement on the back of the photo was one day earlier than the date I'd put on the form. Also because I'd crossed my 7s

Ambi · 30/06/2008 20:28

I had problems with the photo but they wrote to me the next week to advise so they were pretty quick at processing the application.

MissingMyHeels · 30/06/2008 20:30

Def have to send my passport

In this case we need to see:

the child's full birth or adoption certificate showing parents' details and evidence of one parent's nationality or immigration status at the time of the child's birth. That is, either:

the mother's UK birth certificate, Home Office certificate of registration or naturalisation, or her passport that was valid at the time of the child's birth;

OP posts:
LIZS · 30/06/2008 20:32

can't you send your birth certificate then ? Or if you use check and send PO verify it and give it back.

wheresthehamster · 30/06/2008 20:32

Crikey - I'd go in person, you've only got 4 weeks. Certainly wouldn't trust getting anything back in the post.

MissingMyHeels · 30/06/2008 20:34

I've booked an appointment to go and so the Fast Track - bizarrely I am not allowed to take DD with me as it is one person per appointment. Bloody ridiculous.

Or do check and send through post office - they should pick up any problems and then it's 2 weeks. My lady at post office said first passports seem to be coming back after 5 days!!
