Hubby and I (mature couple) are looking for Greek holiday ideas for next May/June. Done Spain the past few years and fancy a change, We would want lots of tavernas nearby. Food is our number priority, Not that interested in exploring, just lazing around reading a book and drinking and eating. We can fly out from any of the London airports and would prefer as short a flight as possible. Any recommendations please?

Thanks for your recommendation. Just checked and it’s approx 1 hour 15min drive from the airport.. I would like a shorter transfer time if possible.

Chania in Crete would be a good option

Kefalonia seems to be coming up lots. Will take a look at Katelios.

It's an island we/I have been returning yyo since 2006 annually whilst taking in a 2nd last minute holiday elsewhere.

I never understood people who went back to the same place year in, year out, until we found Kefalonia and Katelios. The island is 80% returning locals/local visitors as we are called annually.

It's an island unspoilt by mass tourism. The Greeks their haven't allowed it. If you want Costas, McDonald's, Casinos etc forget Kefalonia, as you won't find them.

I was widowed in 2018 unexpectedly, and I still go as my late husband wanted me too continue of anything happened to him.

If you're on Facebook, search bar "Simply Katelios" which is our group page on it. It's our home from home which Saffy runs (I'm a group expert) which will give you a good overview on our home from home.

It's a friendly relaxed group with loads of info in, including guides to all things to do, taxis, buses, places to go etc....

Parga on the Greek mainland, absolutely stunning, gorgeous place, lovely tavernas, no McDonald's, noisy karaoke bars etc, can do a lovely boat over to paxos & have a yummy lunch.

You saved me having to type all that, wonderful place!

Lindos on Rhodes. Won’t need a car, so many restaurants in the town which is pedestrian only. 2 beaches to swim at & the acropolis to explore.

Skiathos, tiny little Greek island, easy to get around and hundreds of lovely restaurants in a beautiful setting. We went in July and stayed at Elizabeth Studios and would recommend.
If that’s not for you as someone who else suggested, Fiskardo in kefalonia is also lovely.

I agree Skiathos is beautiful. I would definitely recommend it.

Rhodes. Just because it’s Rhodes and fabulous. Rhodes Old town is old and magical every evening. Get a good Greek bus to beaches for the day or lots of hotels with pools and sea views.

We went to Lindos in Rhodes 2 years ago for a wedding in August. We stayed in a fabulous all inclusive resort and didn’t leave which I sadly regret! It was just so so hot 40odegree. It was this holiday that made me realise how much I missed the Greek food and why I am requesting recommendations.

Chania is a great choice. Good beach at Nea Chora and great mix of restaurants in the old town. Good bus service if you do fancy getting out & about. Rethymno is also lovely, but a bit further away from the airport

spritzwiththat · 03/10/2026 22:52

Skiathos town. Some amazing restaurants.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 03/10/2026 22:59

Chania or Rethymnon on Crete

Another vote for Paxos, it’s stunning.
