We'd like a holiday abroad this year and, for a change, Cyprus is tempting us.
Has anyone been and could you offer any recommendations please as to which area/accommodation for a family of 4 - two girls aged 9 and 6.
We haven't decided if we want self catering/half board/all inc yet - it all depends on cost.
Also what places could we visit/what sort of things could we do while we are there?
TIA
X

I live in Cyprus so offer my views. If I was coming here on holiday I'd either look to Protaras or Pissouri as I like them lots. The weather is brill most of the year. Today was a bit humid at times but over 30c. Indeed most nights at the moment are around 30C. Do remember to bring mossie stuff as bites can be horrid. If you do get biten visit a chemist. I got some great stuff recently which would be prescription only in the UK. Only prob was instructions were in greek. thank goodness for the internet.

Alot of activites here are cultural or beach related. There are loads of cultural sites to visit and the beaches are great. My DD is 5 and loves just visiting the beach and swimming around. We do get culture too- last weekend James Blunt played in Limmasol and it was great!! Simply red were in Paphos last month

Hope that your trip works out fine

Another vote for Protarus.

We stayed at the Artemis Hotel last year, it had bad reviews on some websites but we were very happy there. Clean and comfortable accomodation. We went through Co op travel, all inclusive for 4 adults and two children in May for £1800 , and it made it very easy with a 7 and a 5 year old to have food on tap as it were.

The beaches are sometimes v stony, but those beach shoes (not crocs - they float) help.

Troodos Mountains are extraordinary, you get great vistas opening up as you go higher and higher. (We had a head-on collision there but that's a whole other story).

Because we were very naughty and went in term-time we made sure that the children could write their names in Greek, and we went to see some ancient churches and paintings in the mountain villages as well as eating meze and generally experiencing local life and culture as well as the touristy bits.

sandy bay next to nissi beach is a lovely little bay with 4 or 5 hotels onto it. It's walking distance to great water park and ayia napa harbour where there are some great boat trips to see dolphins

We had a great holiday in Cyprus last year, staying at the Avanti Hotel in Paphos. Very friendly staff, comfortable rooms and although not on a beach it's easy to get to Coral Bay by local bus. Paphos has lots to see and do including a great water park. My dds were 7,6 and nearly 3 and absolutely loved it.
