Rome in October with a 12-year-old, any recommendations?

I’ve taken the plunge and booked a 3 day trip to Rome in October with my 12 year old daughter. Staying centrally.

I’ve booked a guided tour of colosseum and a golf cart tour on the first day.

Any recommendations for a 12 year old girl?

Apart from pigeon Italian, I assume it’s pretty easy to get by??

With my daughter being 12, I booked quite a few tours via ‘Getyourguide’. That way she’ll have to stick with it, rather than walking around the amazing sites on our own and her saying “are you finished yet”, every 5 minutes! Lol

But I have booked in some fun stuff and she is really looking forward to pasta and gelato making courses.

After everything that’s happened, I took the easy option and just booked a group tour. Hopefully will still be fun though.

@againstalloddsss off the back of this thread I booked the colosseum and Vatican last night, I went through the Booking.com app so hopefully will be okay. My dd is older so I don’t think we need to be on an organised tour, we’re happy just pottering around 🙈😂

@againstalloddsss Don't go to a cat sanctuary! In Rome, see the famous sights or you have missed out big time! Visit cats in the uk. Rome has so many great things to see - my teens loved it and it’s easy to navigate the underground.

We’ve had a great trip, home tomorrow!

My tips are don’t bother with the group tours, it’s nice to walk around places like the colosseum at your own pace.

The city is very walkable, take comfortable shoes!

Food and drink is really reasonable price wise (cheaper than England - thanks Brexit 🙄)

Dont make our mistake if you take the bus - make sure when you tap on the machine flashes green. We thought we’d tapped on but actually hadn’t and got a £50 fine 🤦‍♀️

We saw the Vatican and Sistine chapel yesterday, it was beautiful however we both felt overwhelmed by how busy it was and how hot the building was.

You need to keep your passports on you, each attraction asks to see them and we had to show them when we got fined today.

We enjoyed this as a good intro before we went exploring individual sites - it really helped us all get our bearings.

Interesting on avoiding the group tours. I thought I had read that queues can be incredible and you get fast tracked in a group. Hopefully slightly quieter outside the summer holidays.

Good to hear it’s cheaper than home. That’s one small benefit I suppose 🙈

I haven’t planned to go to Sistine Chapel and Vatican, rightly or wrongly. But heard it is stupidly busy there.

Thanks for the passport tip. Knew we needed them for the Colosseum, but wasn’t aware for pretty much everything.
