Recommendations cities that suit a 48-hour break

We’ve just returned from Porto where we went for 48 hours. It was brilliant, just the right size for a short break, very walkable, great food, lovely atmosphere in the evening by the river. We felt like 48 hours was the perfect amount of time there (I know we could have spent longer and explored outside the city more but loved the convenience of the small city).

Any recommendations for other small, walkable, cities where 48 hours is a sensible amount of time to spend there?

We did a weekend in Hamburg. It's a short flight compared to other places in Central Europe as it's right at the top of Germany. The port area is full of Portuguese restaurants and has a great atmosphere.

Santiago de Compostela in Galicia is perfect for a couple of days walking around, eating, drinking and watching the world go by.

Edinburgh

Another vote for Ghent over Bruges. Just as pretty but more vibrant and cheaper. You can get to Brugge in half an hour by train if you fancy a few hours there

And Malaga or Granada.

Prague, walkable and very beautiful.

Salzburg.

I think a lot of it depends on flight times and ease of getting from the airport to the city.

I am planning to retire there, love it!

Alicante is lovely for a mini beach break and rhe bars and restaurants.sesmed reasonably priced. I also agree with Salzburg.
In the UK Liverpool fits the bill.

Like a PP, I also came on to say Ljubljana. It's perfect for two days - plus not far from the airport. The whole centre is pedestrianised, it's beautiful, interesting, and relatively cheap. We went for three days but tbh we'd run out of things to do after two days (it was still lovely, we went to the huge park and excellent zoo on the third day).

Other places I've had a really good trip to for a couple of days are Santiago, Munich, Milan, Helsinki and Syracuse.

Malaga ?

If I only had two days I’d be focusing on limiting transit times, not really focusing on whether I could do the whole city in 2 days. If you live in London - the train over to Paris is very convenient, if you live near Folkestone and have a car Le Touquet is very pleasant for a couple of days. Don’t underestimate cities in the UK either they are often very interesting and a lot of fun!

Definitely Malaga!
