Winter sun

What a cheap winter break for winter sun, dont like Egypt as feels quite restrictive. Tenerife Maspolomas is good but been there few times now, need to relax with DP on a beach to top up the tan

You are limited in the winter. As you’ve been to Tenerife and Gran Canaria you could try Lanzarote or Fuerteventura. Cape Verde is warm as well.

PrincessofWills · 20/08/2026 18:03

Thailand, or anywhere in Asia. Anywhere in Africa, parts of India . . .

sunnyfeet · 20/08/2026 18:06

It depends what sort of temperatures you prefer? Do you want somewhere properly hot, ie 28 degrees plus etc, or just somewhere warmer and sunnier than the uk?

If you are happy with canaries weather then try La Palma. We have just returned and it is by far the nicest island

Ive been told thailand from other people the flights do seem more expensive but the beaches look lovely.
I guess its safe for women to go about at night without the usual lurkers that ive experience before in places like Turkey

Mauritius (can sometimes get good deals)

I wouldn't go to Cape Verde - I don't think the constant gastro bugs have been fully sorted out yet.

Beachlover1993 · Yesterday 14:31

Thanks not been there is it safe for women to go out at night, is there much in the way of bars and cafes to goto.
Ive just looked at some pictures and looks lovely.
Is it warm in winter time any idea of rain etc

It is very different to the other islands - don’t expect restaurants and pubs on each corner or a waterpark etc. The island however is absolutely stunning and full of greenery and incredible views. We went to the national park, Roque de los Muchachos, visited the rain forest and showered in the waterfall, saw the banana plantations, viewed the volcano and lava fields, visited the observatory and saw the telescopes, and at night we watched the Milky Way and shooting stars. There are also many waking routes across the island which looked incredible but we couldn’t do so with the young children unfortunately. We tried to book a hike to the top of the volcano but that is only possible with a guide and was all sold out. We will be booking again for next year

Your holiday in La Palma sounds sheer bliss @IsitholidayyetWe can’t quite leave the teenagers yet but it’s now on the list for me and DH

Beachlover1993 · Yesterday 15:00

Sounds lovely i guess you can get away from the usual crowded beaches of americas there and find a spot all to yourself to just relax, that would suit me

India was fabulous. Not sure that I would travel there alone any more now however.

We went all inclusive. I think the hotel offered more board options but honestly, whilst the food wasn’t incredible (it was edible but not note worthy), I am pleased we did as I didn’t see that many restaurants outside the 2 main towns. We did eat out at times but I would be wary of not having the hotel food to fall back on if needed

I was going to suggest La Palma too. We didn’t do as much as @Isitholidayyet because I’m disabled, but we absolutely loved our time there.

We booked with TUI, and went all inclusive, but I’ve see Jet 2 fly there too now.

My experience of Thailand is it's very safe for tourists and beautiful beaches, ridiculously warm seas.

There's not a decent hospital or medical care - patients are flown to Tenerife, and other than swimming there really is very little to do in Cape Verde.

Lanzarote is lovely. VERY safe. Even the roads are safe. Volcanic interior that is very striking enhanced by the art/architecture work of cezar manrique. There's a few towns/villages there that are peaceful with a stark beauty. The coastal resorts are fairly low key, nothing is too built up because they restrict the size of buildings. No mega hi-rise hotel complexes. Lot of surfers/surf houses, yoga retreat type places which are as chill as you would expect. Everyone I've met there has either been born there or has chosen to live on the island and adopt island mentality in either the short or long term and I think that helps to make it a gorgeous, tranquil , considerate place.

When in winter are you wanting to travel? We don't have kids so often travel oct/nov and parts of Europe are still warm enough to swim. Malaga, Sicily, Crete etc.

I've been to Thailand about 7 times in various parts and never felt unsafe, even when walking around on my own.

Was thinking may end november or maybe january i am fairly flexible but around those times would be great avoiding any Christmas breaks

Sounds nice alternative to tenerife, are there bars or restaurants around as would make a difference if B&B or all inc .
Canaries are good as quite relaxed regarding access to beaches and beach wear

Madeira is lovely but quieter than Tenerife or Gran Canaria. Loads of lovely restaurants in Funchal though and some great day trips
