Security gadget for hotel door ?

Someone tried to enter our hotel room (NOT Travelodge !), I'd used the security chain, so he didn't get in. DH opened the door, a man said something - could have been "sorry" in his language - & wandered off.
This was a 5* hotel, & the response to our call was immediate.
CCTV found him, it was apparently a mistake by a trainee receptionist who was subsequently "disciplined". We were handsomely compensated.
However, some hotels we stayed in on this trip did not have a chain or bar, which made me feel uneasy.
Can anyone recommend a gadget that could stop this happening, please ?
I was wondering whether a simple rubber door wedge would suffice.

Door wedge. I got dd one when she travelled last year.

Yep, I take a door wedge when travelling on my own for work.

And I consistently comment in hotel reviews about whether the doors to the room felt secure (ie is there a flip lock) in the hope they will start to realise people notice and care about this.

https://amzn.eu/d/0979JpcT I used this thin credit card sized door alarm. It worked really well in India especially as one of the rooms had a gap under the door and another place was a yurt style. You can also use it on a window so it detects if someone opens it.

The advice is not to use these but the hotel door chain. If you wedge the door no one can get in in an emergency or if you are ill

If you type hotel door lock into a search you should find some. There has been one recommended on here before I was trying to put a link to b and q but it won’t let me. It looks a bit like a clamp.

Would a rubber door wedge still be effective if the door opens outwards? I'm not widely travelled but most if not all hotel doors I've come across in northern Europe open outwards.

I've got a Door Jammer, seen advised on here ages ago.

Where on earth do you stay/go? I don't think I have ever come across a hotel door that opens outwards, they always open in to the room?! Otherwise guests would be constantly opening doors on to each other in the corridors? Perhaps if staying in some very old country house type place that has ancient doors you might get this.

This is my worry. Even this week there was a thread about a man who locked himself in the toilet as the handle broke. Even with someone on the other side and both of them fit and well it still took a while to open the door. Imagine if there was a fire?

The Netherlands

The Netherlands must surely be an anomaly! I find it most odd you have only experienced them opening outwards. 🤔😃

Edited

The one I clearly remember was a hotel in a fairly ornate old building in a small town in the south of the country, but the place had been completely modernised and refurbished inside, wasn't at all fancy and had modern room doors and so on. Odd...I'll keep my eyes peeled next time I'm there.

Old style floridian houses used to open out - precaution against hurricanes.

God I've never thought about this before now 😦
