Off on our very first eurocamp holiday on Thursday with our very friendly, social, swim loving six year old daughter . Just look at the weather!! What are we going to do? Any advice welcome 🙏

Rushing off to Argos this morning to stock up on board games and some arts and crafts bits.

While picture is loading … it’s basically thunderstorms all week … but warm at least

Take some waterproof clothes and still explore? Sorry I've never been on a camping trip so...

BinBagDress · 19/08/2026 07:30

Metoffice and several other weather sites don’t look anywhere near as bad as the BBC. Metoffice say afternoon thunderstorms Thursday, dry and sunny Friday-Sun, Monday morning thunderstorm then bright etc. I find our weather forecasts for other countries can be very inaccurate, thunderstorms generally blow over quickly they don’t last a week and then sun appears and it becomes very humid.

Ionacat · 19/08/2026 07:36

You’ll be fine. Weather forecasting on Lake Garda is hard and it’s often localised and any storms quick and pass through. Storms look specular over the lake though. There’s plenty to do if you take waterproofs. It tipped it down the day we went to Riva for a couple of hours and then brightened up and same with Malescine. We sheltered with excellent coffee and pastries when needed!

StrongGirlsClub · 19/08/2026 07:44

We’ve been to a Eurocamp here. I wouldn’t expect it to rain all day. Chances are you’ll have a couple of sharp downpours through the day.

If weather really isn’t great you can get around easily using the local train station. We did day trips to Milan, Verona, Bologna and Venice.

Dokushozanmai · 19/08/2026 07:49

Are you hiring a car? There is loads to do around there. As PP says there is Milan, Bologna, Verona and Venice. There are beautiful Roman ruins in Sirmione and the Ferrari museum in Modena.

ChaliceinWonderland · 19/08/2026 07:51

From garda the train is literally 4 euros to verona one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. Fyi innorthern Italy after 15th Aug the weather always breaks... they've hadv40 degrees for 2 months now!!

LindorDoubleChoc · 19/08/2026 07:54

We've been to a Eurocamp in Northern Italy and witnessed some spectacular storms. But as pp have said - they are over very quickly and then the sun comes back out. The one thing you will need a ton of, I warn you now, is insect repellant! Those midgies are hungry.

Lovemycat2023 · 19/08/2026 08:17

The BBC weather app is designed to pick out the worst weather for each day and put it as their daily summary (some tourist attractions have complained about it putting people off). There is probably a risk each day, but it’s not going to tip it down every day. Have a look at a proper forecast rather than an app, and that’ll give you a better idea.

TeamGeriatric · 19/08/2026 08:17

I don't think the rain will be half as bad as you are imagining. I also think you'll be far too hot in full waterproofs of you do get a downpour, I probably would take a waterproof jacket for everyone but also big umbrellas. Choice of footwear important, trainers take ages to dry, crocs or walking sandals are better if your feet are going to get an absolute soaking.

Daisylove1 · 19/08/2026 08:23

I’ve just got back- it rained a couple of times, in the night. Didn’t affect the day at all.

LoopyLil82 · 19/08/2026 08:23

Oh you guys are great and so reassuring - thank you so much x

I fly there tomorrow. I was relieved the temp has come down and also think it'd not going to be rainy all day long. I've been before so know what its like.

I prefer it cooler, can't sightsee in the heat. Given the heatwave forecast I'd been resigned to being localised to the holiday park and lake but not booked activities just in case.

Now looking like we can go to Gardaland, trip to a winery, possibly see Venice, booked verona for Friday to see the opera and weather should ease off for that but I packed ponchos. Looking forward to a run along the river. I'm mainly going for food and scenery so I was not that bothered about a holiday park and swimming.

AnnaMagnani · 19/08/2026 08:38

Anything under 50% on the BBC Weather app means no rain so it may not be that bad.

If it is that bad at least for years after you can talk about the year of the hottest driest summer ever when you managed to have your holiday soaked in rain.

Holidaytips · 19/08/2026 08:41

Agree with others re weather, but if you're there with a 6yo definitely visit Gardaland if she's a fan of rides/theme parks - they also have a small peppa pig world. We took our then almost 3yo a few years back - got there when it opened and had to drag her out at closing time.

Holidaytips · 19/08/2026 08:48

Also - I feel you, it's the first day of our holiday in Northern France and I'm seeing rain for the first time in months 🤦‍♀️

Ooh good call on the sandals - always fall off mine in the rain. Will try to get some walking sandals on my last minute dash into town

I’ve been in Italy during this type of weather. Generally it’s been a very short sharp downpour, then the sun comes out and dries it up fast. So it’s not quite like North Wales in a week of solid rain!!

Johnogroats · 19/08/2026 09:06

Just back from French alps and our weather forecast looked like that. In reality it was hot and sunny in the morning, clouded up early afternoon and then some days we had a bit of rain (a few threatening splodges), others (usually later eg 8pm) we had a massive storm which lasted an hour or so. It really didn’t impact our holiday other than one day we were going up a mountain (serious hike) but turned back due to concern about the weather. I’m sure you’ll have a good time…. Just plan a few contingencies!

ChiasMarineras · 19/08/2026 10:18

Tomorrow and Friday look very rainy, but from Saturday onwards my app is only showing sun during the days - cloudy or rainy later in the evening. The weather there can change very quickly, chances are you won’t be having heavy downpours every day.

Contrary to the name, the vast majority of the time Eurocamp isn't camping - you stay in a lodge with a fridge etc and often a dishwasher.

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 19/08/2026 12:45

Very normal to have hot dry days and nightly thunderstorms. I’d make sure you’re equipped for damp evenings.

shellyleppard · 19/08/2026 12:45

@loafed thank you for clarifying this

The opera benches are very very unforgiving!! Definitely take as much padding as you can - towels / cushions / blankets etc.

Sirmione is very very worth a trip ideally when nice and you can spend time in the lake the water is stunning.

They do night time tickets for Gardaland, well, after 5pm which we did as the heat was too much in the day. We also went to Verona, there’s a children’s museum and we tried to go the amphitheater and Juliet’s balcony but the kids were wilting in the heat 🥵
