Is Switzerland too expensive for a family summer holiday in the Alps?

We’re a family of 6 who just came back from an amazing holiday in the a French alps. I love alpine summer holidays and really want to go to Switzerland next, but is it just too expensive? I don’t want to curb spending on activities when there, but happy to self cater to reduce cost of food. Anyone with experience?

It is expensive but there are ways to cut the cost. Self-cater, drive there and take tinned items, pasta, rice, coffee, cereal etc with you - then stop off in a large French supermarket before you cross the border for fresh items - obviously you will need to top up in Switzerland but this does help a bit.

We hardly eat out - but we find you can go out for a drink as a family of 4 and those prices are ok. Outdoor pools and tennis were reasonably priced. Hikes are free obvs but cable cars to get up the mountain can be expensive or we did a 90 minute walk up one mountain, drink and then walk back down so no need to pay. Also mixing it up so you spend half the time in a cheaper country like Italy might be a good idea. It is beautiful in the Swiss Alps so for me worth the expense.
