Dubai at Easter

I’m thinking of Dubai for an Easter break. It will be me and DH who are both in our 70s plus DGD age 9. We normally go to Malaysia and Singapore in the spring but I’m not up to such a long flight time. Is 7 days about right for Dubai ?I’m looking at the zGrand Hyatt but if anyone has any other recommendations that would be great.

I am in no way interested enough to do that. It isn't somewhere I'm ever going to visit.

Since this thread is about taking a child to Dubai, I just thought 'WTF is there for a kid of 9 to do there?' and wondered if people might actually enlarge on that as part of the discussion.

Yeah I've just been savaged on another thread for asking an incidental question that was relevant to the discussion at hand. Commiserations (and sorry I don't know the answer to your question myself though would be idly interested in the answer)

Have you out of interest researched what other countries’ travel advice is for Dubai right now? You might be surprised that not everyone is as permissive as our own FCDO. For example, residents of UAE had a shelfer in place alert only just today. Many hotels remain closed for “maintenance”.
if you aren’t a regular Middle East visitor I will say it seems a funny time to start.

I am watching this with interest as I am due to go next week....

I have family coming to visit next week and it hasn’t changed anything for us. They are still coming!

I went to Dubai last Feb and really loved it. It’s fantastic for kids. Super safe with lots to do-the amazing water park, great beaches and hotels, amazing restaurants, any water sport you fancy, Top Golf, skiing and huge malls. My teen DS loved it. The service was amazing.
We stayed in the Atlantis which I probably wouldn’t do without kids (too big and busy) but just perfect with kids. The weather was perfect in February. It might be too hot at Easter, not sure.

Sounds good 🙂 I can’t wait to get back there!

That whole region is so volatile, why would you even consider going there for a holiday? Just seems an odd decision to me.

OP I’m goin the Grand Hyatt on Monday! My eldest DC lives there and I travel over yearly to visit.

We’ve stayed at the hotel getting on six times now. It’s a beautiful hotel and they have just built a water park in it which looks fantastic - if your on instagram they have lots of videos showing it.

It’s like a city oasis - beautiful grounds and only about 10 mins from the airport. Lots of restaurants in the hotel and the Market Place where they do breakfast and dinner is awesome.

Rooms are gorgeous and spotless - the hotel is.

There is a little shop just outside the hotel where crisps, chocolate, ice creams, drinks ect are super cheap compared to the hotel prices.

Wafi Mall is a few mins in a taxi and costs around £2.50 😁 Lots of shops and a souk underneath it.

A super market has just opened up close by and we’re looking forward to going to have a look - we’re regulars here now so enjoy getting things cheaper 😂

It’s not a flashy in your face hotel like some I’ve been in over on the Palm - it’s really classy - you’ll love it.

I also love Oman and it’s perfect for a week or so. The Oman Air flight is easy and direct and navigation around Muscat is WAY easier and quicker than Dubai.

I love the Kempinski at Al Mouj but with a child (I have a young teen) I’d go for the W or the Intercontinental on Qurum beach as it’s lovely for a stroll.

Me too - Monday. It’s fine. My eldest is there. They think the U.K head lines are bonkers as it’s just business as usual

@Teamrabbitthat’s great to hear! We’re driving over on Saturday for a few days to check out the new waterpark.

Wohoooo! My kids had to look at it through the window last year as it wasn’t finished 😂😂 Looks great!

I believe they are strict on taking food and drinks in so beware! There is a vid up on insta 😆

Many airlines have suspended operations completely (and Emirates have entirely rerouted their flight paths). On 18th — yesterday — there was a shelter in place alert to move away from windows due to potential missile activity. Many hotels, facilities within others and some water parks etc are closed until further notice. The governments of Australia, US, Canada and Germany are advising against non essential travel.

By all means, you may have considered the facts, UK FCDO advice and local opinion and decided that in your view it’s safe for your family to travel there. But it is not business as usual and it gives a false impression to those who don’t know the region to claim otherwise
