What should I pack for a comfortable family caravan holiday?

First caravan holiday booked since I went as a kid,. Obviously back then my parents sorted it all out and I just had a wonderful care free holiday.
Now I'm an adult with my own family and I need to pack for us all. Obviously I'll pack chargers, clothing, toiletries, entertainment etc
What other sort of things do I need to bring to ensure a comfortable fuss free stay in a caravan please?

Fluffy blankets unless we’re due a heatwave again, shoes you can slip in and out of easily, wash bag for trekking to the showers.

Are you driving? This may make me sound insane but I would take a hand held hoover (Dyson if you have one)! So much better than a dustpan and brush.

i also take:
kitchen stuff - favourite knife, proper mugs, favourite non stick frying pan, spatula, anything you use a lot at home
cafetière for coffee
spare cloths and tea towels
pillows if you have room
small games eg card games for evening

I also suggest taking your own blankets or a dressing gown, caravans can feel chilly.in the mornings.

Hand towels for the bathroom and good quality toilet roll. A caravan will provide one but its cheap crap!

Basic cleaning products as you won't get nothing. I usually take anti bac spray and give the kitchen surfaces a once over, washing up liquid/scourer , few clothes etc.

Finally, we took our air fryer last time. I always find caravan ovens to generallty be rubbish and slow, so taking the air fryer made cooking much easier.

Some fans if your going during this heatwave.

For UK self catering holidays I normally take some kitchen bits too:

  • Frying pan
  • Chopping knives
  • Corkscrew
  • Foil
  • Food tubs
  • Air Fryer (If possible)
  • Coffee, tea, squash, cleaning things

Is it a static?

mcrlover · 11/08/2026 00:30

Salt, pepper, garlic powder, olive oil, mixed herbs, tupperware, fair liquid and sponges, buy kitchen roll and agree nice toilet paper

Agree with cleaning products from poster above

Hand sanitizer gel, your own sheets and pillowcases

Plenty of jumpers so you don't get chilly and don't need to wear a smelly one when you can't wash them

We had one recently and I found myself dreaming of a dressing gown and cozy slippers, and a hot water bottle (was in Scotland so chilly)

Your favourite brand of tea/coffee

Any1ForTennis · 11/08/2026 00:46

Nail clippers, small bin bags (you'll want to empty bin daily), anti-bacterial surface cleaner, nail file, torch for kids bedroom if they don't have a smart phone, decent kitchen roll for cleaning/drying coffee spoons, decent sharp knife (caravan ones are usually blunt as a spoon), hairdryer, fairy liquid, pegs (curtains might not meet in the middle).

I never cook meals but tend to take my own cutlery as caravan stuff can be like Tesco Value crappy stuff as we might get a takeaway or have a caravan cheese&wine night. Also my own coffee mug & gin glass as I just prefer it!

I also always bring a scented candle due to a caravan 25 years ago having a weird smell, never used it yet though and probably not ideal if you have kids running around.

Finally, I usually dig out my old tatty t-towels and use them in the caravan then bin them before coming home.

Organise a supermarket delivery for when you arrive so you don't have to go out shopping and it's all fresh. Tea/coffee in the car for immediate kettle on when you get there! Basic cleaning stuff for washing up and wiping down. Towels if they aren't supplied. Other than that, just your clothes, toiletries and personal items really unless you have any very specific kitchen gadgets or similar that you want to take. Caravans are much posher than they used to be.

Ear plugs for when seagulls and crows start strutting about on the roof at 4am ( or a shotgun)

Alltheusefulitems · 11/08/2026 01:46

Your own baking tray and a tatty hand towel for stepping out of the shower onto, kitchen roll toilet roll, zip lock bags and enough bin bags to put rubbish in and to put your dirty clothes to take home in.

We did a caravan holiday in Cornwall last summer and hired a big car from qeeq as we knew we’d have a ridiculous amount of stuff with us. We packed the usual clothes and chargers, but also took washing-up liquid, bin bags, tea towels, kitchen roll, snacks and a couple of reusable shopping bags. We also had room for the bikes and beach things.

Is it a static?

Yes, a static. It's a gold one with a balcony so hoping it's nice! Booked very last minute 🫠

You guys are all so wonderfully helpful 💝
This is exactly why I asked as I would have never thought to bring half of what's been mentioned!

Definitely bath mat(s). Cleaning cloths. Bottle opener. Decent knives, large pan - if you are cooking pasta/rice for a crowd. Small amounts of things like - oil, washing up liquid, butter, salt and pepper etc. Enough towels for showers, swimming and beach. Pegs and something to fashion a washing line to dry swimwear and towels. (Hopefully you will have an airer to hang out the window- most caravans do - but pegs Definitely.)

MyCatPrefersPeaches · 12/08/2026 08:13

Definitely decent knives, cleaning bits, bath mat, bin bags, handwash for the bathroom, and things like clingfilm.

ACatInHellsChance · 13/08/2026 15:07

People have said most of it but also hand wash/soap for all the sinks, and towels including hand towels for all bathrooms. Swimwear and toys/floats etc for kids if you're planning to go swimming on the site? Slippers - I forgot mine on our last one and I really didn't like being barefoot in the caravan but I will say that it was really clean it's just my own hangup. We take a few card or board games to play in the evenings once the kids are in bed. Snacks. Sandwich bags. Those fasteners thingies to fasten open packets. Tiny frying pans for fried eggs. Baking paper.

Hope you have a lovely time, the lodge/caravan sounds great.

All you have to do is pack everything in your kitchen including the sink and the contents of your bedroom + favourite foods and you'll be fine. 😊

lovingthebeachlife · 13/08/2026 15:11

Does the caravan supply adequate bedding, towels, dishwasher tablets, cloths etc.

I always bring cleaning wipes, slippers and tupperware box so I can take food out with us.
Sometimes a clothes drying rack is useful

lovingthebeachlife · 13/08/2026 15:12

I’ve always had bath mats provided and lots of saucepans & utensils but I guess it depends on what you spend.
