Could someone advise please - looking for the following (a big wish list I know 🫣)

  • Summer hols 2027 for 7 nights
  • Aparthotel in any Mediterranean resort, not fussy
  • 2 bedroom - connecting rooms or apartment for 2 Adults and 2 teen girls
  • Kitchenette
  • Breakfast included
  • 45 mins from airport max
  • Can be small - no need for slides/kids clubs.
  • We’d like busy but classy, not clubby resorts and definitely want to avoid Brits abroad’ get your roast dinner here type vibe!
  • Walking distance to town/beachfront promenade with restaurants would be ideal.
Can anyone suggest anywhere which may fit the bill? Thanks so much for your time everyone ☺️

Malta is actually perfect, Sliema or Gazia not St. Julian's unless your teens are over 18. Aparthotels that fit exactly what you're describing. Close to airport, walkable seafront promenade with proper restaurants (not themed Wetherspoons), busy enough to feel alive but you're not surrounded by hen parties (as long as you are not in st. julian's.

  • Summer heat in Malta hits 30°C+ so early beach/swim, siesta in the apartment (kitchenette = snacks and cold drinks on hand), back out at 5pm when it cools.
  • Teens usually prefer exploring independently anyway, you're close enough to town that they can wander without you. Sliema has an indoor shopping mall
  • Two-bedroom aparthotel with kitchenette is standard there; breakfast included you'll find easily.
  • Bugibba is another place I would recommend a large brit expat community there also.

If you're not eating out every meal (saves money + means someone's always happy with the snacks), and you can have quiet mornings without restaurant chaos.
(Full disclosure: I'm a neurodivergent travel planner and neurodivergent myself, Malta will always have a place in my heart as I spent my teen years there.)

That’s amazingly helpful, thanks so much for replying in such detail.

We went to Malta a few years ago, if I’m honest I was a little disappointed!

Valetta was beautiful, as was the hotel, we stayed at the Westin Dragonara, which was a beautiful resort but the outside surrounding area seemed really grotty. The roads/pavements were an unmade and there was graffiti. I will check it out again though because your bullet points do seem to fit what we’d like ❤️

Sun Gardens Dubrovnik or Pine Cliffs Portugal both have apartments as part of the hotel complex and I have been to both.

Malta's like that, the Westin is gorgeous but you're basically in a resort island, the towns around there can feel a bit rough, and 10 mor 20 years behind it add to the charm. I grow up there. If you ever go again, you can either lean into the resort totally and just accept that's your bubble, or you can pick different bits to explore where it actually feels nicer or more to your liking. Most families don't realise there's a choice, so they end up disappointed when choice is taken away or even if you have high expectation on a place.
Honestly, it's worth giving Malta another go with a bit more intention about where you actually spend time. The restaurants and quieter spots outside Valletta are lovely when you know where to look. Did you try Mdina it is where they filmed Game of thrones?
If you do planning another trip Malta or anywhere else, feel free to ask. I'm a neurodivergent travel planner and I lived in Malta it will always have a special place in my heart. No pressure at all, just here if you would like my advice.
