Where would you go for 7-10 nights in early October?

Budget not massive - maybe £1,500 each for flights and decent accommodation.

Greece looks a bit iffy weather wise. We were thinking Barbados or even Thailand, but open to suggestions.

If you want reliable beach weather, I’d choose Egypt, Canaries, Crete or Cyprus. Maybe Morocco is an option too?

Sicily. DH I went in Oct a few years ago and spent 2 weeks. Warm enough to still swim but not too busy with tourists. I've since heard alot of good things about cefalu beach- which we didn't go to at the time. Both Palermo and Catania had the most amazing fruit/veg markets, flea markets and things to see. The catacombs in Palermo was fascinating, if a bit creepy. Maybe not suitable if you have small children. We considered hiring a car, but parking in the cities looked to be a nightmare and the various public transport we used was on time, cheap and clean.
This was our itinerary:

-Flew into Palermo and stay a few nights
-Train to Agrigento to see the museum there and acropolis like structures 2 nights
-Coach to Catania and stayed there maybe 5 nights including a day trip to Syracuse. We could have gone to Taormina but Etna was rumbling so we decided against it
-Coach back to Palermo and several days there. 1 day via local bus to Mondello beach. Flew out from Palermo.

If you went long haul you would spend half the week recovering and the other half dreading the recovery once you get home!

Ha ha ha - we frequently have work trips to New York for 1-2 nights. Long haul no problem.
