3 days in Shanghai....must see/do?

My sister isn't on here but she and her husband are going to be in shanghai in December for 3 days and she is currently putting together an itinerary.

She is vegetarian too, so any insights on food and restaurants would be really welcome too.

Any top tips, must see things or other advice?

Thanks.

It will be cold, so tell her to wrap up warm!
A visit to one of the water towns nearby is a must. Suzhou is a nice options because there are some gardens worth exploring too and it’s only about 30mins by public transport.
The ERA show at Shanghai Circus World is excellent. No animals, just amazing acrobatics, stunts, aerials etc…
There’s a synchronised light show every evening. The best viewing spots are along the Bund.
If she’s into art, the M50 area is quite fun to explore. Lots of galleries and street art.
Disneyland is great - lots of attractions suitable for adults and generally shorter queue times than at other Disneylands.

I would second the recommendation of Suzhou. It will give your sister much more of a feel of old China than anything in Shanghai, assuming that would interest her. Shanghai is good for experiencing modern China's development. Wander the streets of the old French Concession - lots of small restaurants, cafes and stores there.

Oooh, great replies. She would definitely be interested in 'old china'.

She had mentioned something about a French area, I'm sure. So everything recommended seems like it's on the right track, so thank you.

She hasn't mentioned Disney. I wonder of thats something she would like! I'll be showing her the thread so she will see all of your recommendations!

They are en route to Aus so the temperature difference is going to make for interesting packing!

Another possibility for old China is Xinchang Ancient Town - I think you can get close on the Shanghai Metro. There are loads of 'water towns' similar to this in this region of China. I guess in December they won't be mobbed but can be very busy at other times of the year.
