Holiday for an exhausted carer

I really need a break from caring for my profoundly disabled child. My DH has suggested that I go away for a week away. Our nearest airport is Stansted and I would like to only fly maximum four hours. Ideally an adults only resort or hotel. I just want some quiet, nice sandy beaches.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or possibly the UK. I just need somewhere I can relax.

Are you looking for sun and rest or a bit of sight seeing too look at Costa Doranda under 3 hours flight, and gorgeous coastline.

Mallorca, Rhodes (or any Greek islands)?

Ikos or similar

It’s nice to read about a woman being valued for their caring role.

You absolutely deserve this.

What else do you want from your holiday?

All inclusive?
nice places to eat? Local or typical British food? What nationality do you prefer if local dishes?

Do you want beachfront or set back a bit and how far will you want to walk?

Do you want to visit local markets? a local town? Do you want local historical sights or museums to meander around?

If you are exhausted, maybe look at a country house hotel in the UK with a pool and spa facilities. It will cut out the hassle of airport travel which can be stressful for just a week by the time you get there its nearly time to come back.

If you are looking at abroad, what about Greece (either mainland or an island you can fly direct too like Cyprus - guaranteed sun, lots of hotel choices for all budgets and a bit of historic interest.

If you are burnt out, one of the problems will be the effort of making a decision will be tough. Don't rule out using a travel agent for suggestions.

As a carer to my DM I found Tui Blue Suite Princess in Gran Canaria fitted the bill. It’s adults only and all inclusive and is on a quiet beach.

Yes this let them do the search for you. .

I went to White Suites in Lanzarote which is an adults only spa hotel a few minutes walk from the beach in Playa Blanca. You can book it as a jet2 package from Stansted to include a transfer, which would be easiest.

But if you go to a Hays Travel, they sell jet2 packages amongst other holidays and they'll do it all for you - but looking on the website is easy enough.

Thanks everyone. Especially to the posters who’ve mentioned decision making. No one really seems to get that. I suppose that’s why I can’t firm up on a choice.

Ideally all inclusive. I don’t fancy doing much to be honest. Maybe just the beach, reading and quiet. I would prefer to be somewhere a bit quieter away from families. Happy to walk about 20 minutes. I’m not too fussed about doing anything. I just need space and peace I think.

Good shout on a travel agent and thanks for all the suggestions so far.

Los Gigantes in tenerife is a very adults resort. A friend stayed in the tui adults only hotel there and loved it.

Yes this would be a lovely resort.

I use to live just down the road from here.

Also look at Peurto del a Cruz as families tend to go to the south.

You don’t need any more decisions, I have some illnesses of my own and decisions just add to it.

try your local travel agent, and have a lovely time looking after yourself.
