We are going with Exodus, not travelled yet obviously, but have used them for trips before we had kids, so optimistic it will be brilliant.

aberamagold · 27/07/2026 14:18

Last: Switzerland
Next: camping in North Wales
Dream: Switzerland was pretty much the dream, but do want to go to Norway

PatioDwellers · 27/07/2026 14:20

Last holiday was an unexpectedly completely relaxing break in the Lake District in a self catering cottage with DH and the dog.

Next holiday - Turkey - to stay in a cave hotel and go ballooning.

Dream holiday - oh so many. Planning South America as long holiday post retirement in a few years. Thinking about Vietnam in February - if we can get a dog sitter....

No17CherryTreeLane · 27/07/2026 14:20

Great, thank you, I'm going to seriously take a look this evening.
It would pretty much be dream trip status for us, especially the kids.

I didn't use a company, I booked and planned it all myself. Picked up a pre-booked car at the airport and drove across to the coast. The only thing I used a local guide for was to drive into the dunes because a) I didn't know where I was going, b) I didn't know enough about driving in the desert and c) it can be dangerous because there's 'unofficial' 1-way systems in place to stop 4x4s hurtling up opposite sides of the dunes and crashing head-on at the top. Oh - and we also did dune surfing with them which was fun.

Note - I grew up in southern Africa so had an advantage of local knowledge, so you might be better off arranging it all with a company like you mentioned you were planning to do...

A lot of people do do self drive in Namibia, I think I was just worrying about punctures and the like in the middle of nowhere. Maybe next time we will be up for some self driving.

We loved South Africa (although it was many years ago). Incredible scenery and culture, safari’s, beautiful beaches and fantastic food and wine at rock bottom prices. Amazing standard of accommodation too.

Also many years ago we had a great trip to Vietnam travelling up and down the country by train/car.

Chile, Jordan and Orlando are great family trips and can be as adventurous as you want to make them.

Closer to home we always have fantastic trips to the Scottish Highlands and the Lake District. It just needs the right gear.

We also really like Ibiza and Lanzarote.

Namibia is quite an easy country to self drive through. We went up from S Africa towards the skeleton coast, Windhoek, Fish River Canyon, Etosha National Park. It’s adventurous but not too challenging as there are quite a few tourists driving the trails.

Majorca for me. DH and I had sooo much history there in the Alcudia region. It was my first ever holiday abroad with my parents when I was 11 so there's that. Also, DH's parents owned a lovely apartment there for many years so we did visit it quite a lot.

Sadly, DH and his parents are all no longer with us (DH died in March this year) but the DDs (now all adults) and I have hired apartments in the same complex in September and are really looking forward to it. It will be fun, a trip down Memory Lane and a step on the road to starting to heal from a terrible year 2026 (my mum also died just 3 months after DH). Very much looking forward to it. We need it.

My last holiday was in February when I went to Tenerife with DH for what turned out to be our last holiday together because he died in March.

My eldest DD, her partner and I are planning a trip to Australia in around October 2027 to visit my SIL (DH's sister) and her husband. SIL visited us all and went to DH's funeral, so it will be nice to visit her next year for a holiday visit instead.

Very fortunate to afford to travel as much as we do but dont really go out or drink and prioritise holidays

Livingthebestlife · 27/07/2026 19:04

Was in Orlando beginning of year, next holiday, was trying to book Lanzarote for a break near winter but just a bit more expensive than I hoped and there seems to be the best place for winter sun. Dream holiday, I'd really love to go to Lapland, it's just so expensive doing a package, tried pricing up separately, but accommodation is hard to choose from, don't know what I should and need to book, don't know anyone who went so can't ask .
