Do citronella bracelets work as an alternative to insect repellent spray?

Has anyone used the citronella bracelets that repel bugs, instead of the usual bug repellent spray? I don’t like dousing myself or the kids in chemical sprays, but we all seem to have tasty blood 😅 the bracelets seem a bit too good to be true, but I’m hoping people have had some success with them?

citronella bracelets are complete snake oil. As is skin so soft for duck fleas etc.

Skin So Soft is absolutely bloody useless as an insect repellent but I bet they’ve sold millions on the back of recommendations in threads like this. It’s almost as if a siren goes off at Avon HQ and someone will come along and proclaim it the greatest. It isn’t. It might be a mildly nice mist moisturiser but it’s good for fuck all else!

There are literally millions of mosquitoes in Spain these days, it’s become a massive problem. At one time the blighters weren’t around during the day but now they are. I’ve been bitten terribly in Spain, day and night.

My tips are wear light coloured clothing, cover up as much as possible and use Deet or Picaridin. Picaridin is a new repellent and is much kinder on your skin than Deet.

Nothing else works. If you do get bitten, antihistamines can help and also a mild steroid cream.

Skin so soft only works for people who don’t get bitten.

Smidge is good. It's a picardin spray.
