I'd recommend Malaga city for ease of access, safety, nightlife, food, shopping, beach/beach bars (chiringuitos), lovely marina area, and lots lots more, especially solo. Bus from airport to city for around €2 or so. Train from the station to places like Benalmadena if you want to spend the day in a nice beachside place etc.

This sounds fabulous, history and sea swimming are big plusses for me.
Did you stay in Dubrovnik ?

(Planning next years holiday having just come back from this year's 🤣.)

Yes - we stayed in a place just above Plaža Divovići. Lots of steps down but idyllic and about 15-20 minutes walk to the old town.

Dubrovnik is fabulous. We stayed at the excelsior and they had steps down from a pier directly into the sea. Great for those who like sea swimming but don’t like sandy beaches like me. I’m desperate to go back.

Good for solo travellers?

Munich. Ideal for solo travellers. You can use the MVGO app to buy tram and train tickets before your journeys. It's done on an honours system so you don't need to worry about conductor interaction. Excellent sites within Munich - Nymphenburg, Munich Residenz, Marientplatz, English Garden etc. Nearly everyone speaks English so no problems making yourself understood. The buses for the excursions mostly leave from Karlsplatz so stay near there. You can go to Neuschwanstein, the lakes, Rothenburg etc. I've not been by myself but I'd have no hesitation to do so and have already recommended it to a solo traveller friend. It's beautiful and the people are great. Highly recommend.

Croatia is the best and one of the safest countries in Europe - if that's a concern as a solo traveller. Split as a base then you can island hop - lots of opportunities to party but also city / culture / beach.
