Short break Switzerland, Germany, Austria or Italy - ideas please!

Looking to go away for 5 days at the beginning of September with DH and DS4. We’ve done a beach holiday this year so fancy something a bit different. Can anyone recommend anywhere that’s easy to go to but has sufficient shops/restaurants to mean that we don’t need to venture too far during the week? Not looking to hire a car. Wanting something with some nice scenery and a chilled vibe!

If you're going in September, check the lift timetable before you go - we went to Zermatt a few years ago, which was brilliant, but some of the lifts stopped running in mid-August, as it was the end of the Swiss holidays.

I've been looking for similar.

I'm probably flying to Turin and then getting the train to Bardonecchia (or possibly Sauze) - I've skied both places but not been in the summer.

As mentioned above you could well find lifts don't operate in September - in Italy they seem to close at the end of August.
