Bed configuration in Spanish hotels

We’re going on our first family holiday to mainland Spain next week. When booking, we specified 2 adults and 1 child age 3.

Whats the general bed configuration in Spanish hotels. Is it 3 single beds or a double bed with a fold up camp bed for the child?

I will likely sleep with the 3 year old but not sure if my partner will fit comfortably on a camp bed all week.

Just wondered what the norm is for any of you seasoned travellers. Thanks!

It all depends on the hotel, some have family rooms which include a double and one single, others it will be a standard room with a double bed and a camp bed.

You’d be better off contacting the hotel directly.

You need to look specifically on what the booking says. If it’s a one bed apartment there will be a sofa bed in living room. If it’s a standard room then it will either be a camp bed or single extra bed.

Did you not look when you booked what the room arrangements were?

Contact the hotel or check their facebook page.

What star rating hotel is it?

The Spanish hotels I've stayed in have all been either 1 x King-size bed + a sofa that can be pulled out to use as a bed - or - 2 x double beds butted up together + a sofa that can be pulled out to use a bed.

It usually states the bed configuration on the booking info in my experience?

Occasionally, you get an 'apart-hotel' set up where there's a bedroom and a separate 'living room' area. The sofa again can pull out as a bed.

Have you looked at any photos on online reviews - they are the best indicator on what to expect.

Have a wonderful holiday! ✈️

Thanks everyone. When booking, the room stated 2x double beds. This makes me think there will be a sofa bed or a camp bed for the child.

All photos seem to show the same photo of a room with 2x double beds regardless of the room type you book.

It’s a 4 star all inclusive family hotel if that makes any difference.

I have sent 2 emails to the hotel but my question seems to be getting a bit lost in translation. I’m being told it’s a standard double room but I can’t seem to get out of them what the third bed will be.

Would that technically be 1 x double bed for the adults and 1 x double bed for the child - so that's ok? (I know you said the sleeping configuration may be different - but it's a good room - yes?)

On tripadvisor, you can ask the question there too and guests which have stayed can answer. The might have multiple room types available, but it might help.

Sorry I don’t follow this at all. If it stated 2 doubles when booking I’d expect the room to have exactly that, 2 double beds. Especially if the pictures also show 2 doubles. I’m confused why you would think there would be a sofa bed or camp bed? And presumably that would be ok for 3 of you as it’s 2 in one bed and 1 in the other. But if you want to confirm it just call the hotel and ask to confirm your room type and the bed layout. It’s not a complicated question.

Yes, this would make sense but when booking, all rooms are described as a standard double. So if 2x adults are staying, you get a double each. If there’s 2x adults and 1x child, I assumed there would be an additional bed.

You can even book a standard double room for 2x adults and 3x children but the photos and the description of the room stays the same - 2x double beds.

I have sent another email to the hotel and as another poster suggested, I’ll ask on trip advisor.

Without knowing the hotel I think your assumption is possibly wrong. 2 doubles sleep up 4 people and it would be unusual for a hotel to provide an extra camp bed as standard, when the room is under its max occupancy, and it hasn’t been requested. Most people would just have parents in one bed and the child in the other. Or an adult and child in one bed and an adult on their own if you cosleep.

If you want a the extra bed because none of you want to share then just ask for it. Calling might be better than email and I wouldn’t rely on trip advisor. If the hotel allows 2 adults and 3 kids to occupy that room then that hopefully suggests that an extra bed should be possible, unless it’s only referring to babies in travel cots, so fingers crossed you get your preference! Just check any costs- not personally come across it in Spain but in the US I’ve seen some ridiculous extra charges for rollaway beds.

Have a good holiday!

Thank you @Bitzee that does make sense now you’ve put it like that. I’m happy to co sleep and Dad can sleep on his own.
