UK CDs/CD players in the USA

Will they work?

Ds2 has a CD playing in his room as part of his going to sleep. Will the UK-bought CD player work in the USA? Or will the UK-bought CD work in an American CD player?

The CDs will work (it's visual things which are different)

CD player will work with an adaptor.

Is it just the standard travel adaptor that we need? Not something specifically for CDs, I mean.

Oh, then again - the voltage is different - we brought a cassette player back from the US with us years ago, but it had a switch inside to change the voltage.

Simplest to buy a cheap player there I think.

One like this for about £10 should do it

Will you be travelling around? Will you have a car?

Thanks WW. We're staying with friends for the first part of the holiday, so I think I shall ask them to buy one for us.

Yes. CDs are ok but DVDs are different (they are coded by region. If you buy a DVD in the US you will only be able to play it in a multi-region DVD player in the UK. Most players are like this now but some v.cheap ones are still locked to your region - UK is region 2 and US is region 1).
