Hello!

Hoping for any adivce/guidance/ ideas you have! I have a DS who will be starting school in September 2027 so I’m looking to make the most of one final year of term time holidays. I’m currently really keen on a 2 week/10 day trip in the spring (March or April?), outside of school holidays. Somewhere warm would be great as we are not skiers. Any thoughts/suggestions/tips? At the time of travel we will have DS4 and DD2. Am open to long haul but it would ideally be a single flight rather than one with layovers.

Generally open to all suggestions, although I would probably avoid something that is too city break focused (as last time I just spent most of it googling where is the nearest playpark…). We are probably looking at a budget of £10k to cover hotels and flights.

Thanks so much!

If you don’t mind it hot, then how about Pattaya in Thailand. Fly direct to Bangkok, then it’s about a 1.5 hr transfer. There are lots of family friendly hotels along the beach, but I’d definitely recommend Centara Grand Mirage, if it comes within budget.

At these times I would either do Caribbean or SE Asia. Europe will be too cold for a proper beach holiday, even the Canaries were not really warm enough if you want to spend the day at the pool.

Caribbean is great but prices will go up over Easter. Mexico? Tunisia or Egypt are also ok.

Either Thailand or the Carribbean. Similar amount of jet lag on arrival at both destinations. The Carribbean is a shorter flight than going to Thailand (comparing Jamaica flights to Phuket, it was probably 5 hours shorter total flight time across the round trip), but your money will go further in Thailand. I love Thailand, I love the food and the people, and there is loads to see, you just can't go wrong with a visit there. I think your budget would do 10 days in the Carribbean, I think 2 weeks might be tight if you want to stay in one of the all inclusive luxury hotel options. Though Mexico and Jamaica both have none-AI more budget friendly accomodation you could opt for. I hope you live nearish to Heathrow/Gatwick, direct flight options for long haul from Manchester more limited.

Japan is lovely in the Spring! And great for kids. It's a long flight but you can fly direct.

redboxer321 · 01/07/2026 12:45

Cape Verde?

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 01/07/2026 14:25

Why Jamaica? Many much nicer Caribbean options!

Toomanymincepiestoday · 01/07/2026 14:31

I would say you’d be fine with Tenerife or Gran Canaria at that time of year . We do it every year . Ibeostar anthelia in Tenerife has loads for kids and it’s lovely for the adults too . Not too long a flight either .

Thanks so much for all of these! Some great intel. I have got the Caribbean and Thailand on my shortlist for researching tonight when the kiddos are in bed.

What are people’s thoughts on Mauritius in March/April?

We loved Thailand, it is hot that time of year but fly to Phuket and then stay somewhere like Khao Lak (very family friendly, quiet, nice beaches and small friendly restaurants). We stayed at The Sands in Khao Lak which was fab for kids, lots of facilities and nicely set up rooms (we also travelled into Khao Sok jungle nearby for a few nights which you could do if feeling adventurous).
The other great place would be florida/disneyworld if that appeals but you'd want to avoid American spring break so maybe January- worth looking up crowd calendars to get the right time.
We always spend Feb in Lapland, when they were younger we would say thank you to father Christmas (loads of time with him as its quieter than dec) and see reindeer, huskies, play in the snow, sledge, toast sausages and marshmallows. It's obviously different to what you asked for but it's an amazing trip and we don't ski.
We've also done dubai and Abu Dhabi that time of year, nice weather, easy holiday with beautiful Hotels and plenty for kids to do. Great if you just fancy chilling, there was a great legoland for little ones and a legoland waterpark.

We love this hotel too. We’ve been twice in Feb with DD who is now 6 and we’re going again this Feb.

Agree with Khao Lak, gorgeous! Mauritius is tail end of wet season but could be ok. We also loved Sri Lanka ( but a bit of travelling) and Mexico. Enjoy planning!
