Christmas week in Europe with culture and a chance of blue skies - or other ideas

Older DD is away traveling over Christmas so we thought we'd go away with younger DD for Christmas.

I'm not looking to go further afield than Europe as it's just a week.

I originally thought of the canary islands. Where is good to aim for at Christmas to get a bit of culture too?

Other ideas..

Morocco, Madeira

Somewhere cold (we don't ski though)

Somewhere to enjoy the sights when it's not hot e.g. parts of southern Spain, Greece etc...Is southern Europe wet and grey in December? I don't need swimming and beaches but would like blue skies.

Any other ideas?

Don’t discount ski areas. We as a family rented a ski chalet some were skiing but us oldies enjoyed taking the gondola up and watching the skiers. Going to the Christmas Eve church service, watching Santa on his sleigh riding through the village. Some of the family also went ice skating and if you pick the right resort plenty more to do such as swimming, donut rides, sleigh rides etc. we had a lovely time.

We spent Christmas/New Year staying in central Malaga last year and it was fab. We stayed in a great ApartHotel and the Christmas lights in the city are something else. Most of the days were sunny and a couple of them were tee shirt weather. We took the train to explore for a couple of days and hired a car for another couple. We also walked miles along the promenade with regular stops for drinks and lunch. Highly recommended !

Thanks - there are loads of ideas here. I lived in Spain in my youth and spent a Christmas there.

I love the idea of going somewhere beautiful and historic when the weather makes it easy to wander around.

If you like it to be cold and Christmassy, I recommend Amsterdam. You can go directly on the the Eurostar. We had a fabulous time last Christmas. Weirdly most shops and all museums etc are open on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It's such a beautiful city to wander around and the canals were lit up with lights.

Malaga and Morocco are getting a lot of love - I wasn’t even planning on being away post Christmas but tempted to check if there are any deals now!
