Wereabouts, roughly?

Broadstairs is nice. There's a lovely trail on the cliffs at Dover, if you like walking/nature.

silverfrog · 24/06/2008 20:03

whereabouts in Kent?

PestoMonster · 24/06/2008 20:05

If I were in Kent for the weekend I would go to
the Enchanted Forest at Groombridge

A fantastic day out.

charliecat · 24/06/2008 20:07

Im about 5 mins away from groombridge

groombridge is great, as is Bedgebury.

What age are your children?

silverfrog · 24/06/2008 20:10

if slightly older children, then High Rocks is great for rock climbing...

there's also an outdoorsy place on the road from eridge up to T Wells (can't remember what it's called... but it does water sports, etc and I think there is an indoor ski slope too.

Will google and see if I can find it

charliecat · 24/06/2008 20:12

kids are 7 and 10, oh yeah have been to high rocks for ages. Used to go all the time a a child.
Cant even think which direction broadstairs would be in....will get a map out!
Love bedgebury.

Penshurst Place, I love it. I lived a couple of miles away for a few years and visited loads of times.

PestoMonster · 24/06/2008 20:14

Silverfrog, you are thinking of

Bowles

I used to go dry-skiing there a lot in my youth

JeremyVile · 24/06/2008 20:16

Broadstairs is on the coast. Near Canterbury.

silverfrog · 24/06/2008 20:16

the outdoors centre is Bowles, near Eridge Green, but I htink it mostly caters for adults (must have been dreaming - sure dh took dss and dsd there once) and schools groups...

Bodiam Castle?

Tenterden Steam train?

Leeds Castle is good for a full day out

The Hop Farm at Paddock Wood? - always have loads of different events on

silverfrog · 24/06/2008 20:17

Whitstable is nice if the weather is nice enough to go to the beach. They do windsurfing there. Theres some nice places to eat. The beach is a pebble beach which not everyone likes!

PestoMonster · 24/06/2008 20:22

OOh Silverfrog, we like

the hop farm too

silverfrog · 24/06/2008 20:26

depending on whereabouts near Groombridge you are, charliecat, then a quick run down to the coast at Hastings? Loads to do there in a visiting way - castle, smugglers caves, sealife centre, the beach, a great Victorian Cliff Railway, small funfair type thing (prob hideously expensive) for children, mini golf, the pier (I think they've re-opened it...)

The Hop Farm is good, isn't it PestoMonster? We've only been a couple of times (dds are only 3 and 1!) but it seems like it will do us for ages as always a different thing on...

PestoMonster · 24/06/2008 20:28

Yes, it is very good. We especially liked the giant swings and the willow creations in the forest.

MarmadukeScarlet · 24/06/2008 20:35

I live so close to the hop farm I get half price membership - many changes afoot their though.

Bewl water

There is a more child friendly climbing place near T.Wells called Evolution which is fab

Broadstairs/Whitstable are fab but from you quite a trek - Whitstable is around 1 hour and BS 20 mins+ longer, BS has THE BEST ice cream parlour in the world but DO NOT under any circumstances eat fish and chips from the place on the sea wall.

Tyland Barn is great with pond dipping and wildlife based activities either free or for tiny £

Museum of Kent Life We love it here and often get the train from Paddock wood and then go by boat from Maidstone, it is a wonderful day out. Also if you 'do' gift aid you can enter for a year on your ticket.

Leeds Castle has a fab new playground and you can also visit all year on one admission ticket.

Howlets Zoo only took 55 mins from us and was a good, if pricey day out - as all Zoos are. Check the press releases on their website, sometimes they have 'kids go for £1' days.

I have more but I've got to go know!

MarmadukeScarlet · 24/06/2008 20:36

there, obviously too hungry to spell.

robinpud · 24/06/2008 20:41

Go the WW2 stuff at the White Cliffs in Dover.

gillybean2 · 25/06/2008 01:33

Hever Castle. The different mazes there keep the children busy for ages and there's lots to interest everyone. They might even learn a little history too without even realising it.

Any more recent thoughts?? We are staying in Hythe next week and need entertainment for 3 under 7's, rain and/or shine! Probably can't afford more than one of the big days out here as it would be at least £40 entry -and most of these are not very near where we are staying (to visit family)

Love any new and more budget ideas!!

PavlovtheCat · 20/08/2012 21:29

cry.

SilentMammoth · 20/08/2012 21:32
