Recommendations for a 2027 Singapore and Thailand beach holiday

In the very early stages of planning a 2027 holiday with a few nights in Singapore and then a week or so relaxing in Thailand in a hotel by the beach.

Two adults 60s/70s, reasonably fit and active, so not a Patong Beach-type vibe. We have been to Thailand before, but Singapore will be new to us. We don't have an unlimited budget, but not doing it on a shoestring.

Any recommendations please?

TIA

Shamelessly bumping for the Friday browsers.

We did this the other way around earlier this year - 11 nights in Thailand then 3 nights in Singapore.

we did 3 nights in Bangkok, then an overnight train followed by a night at an elephant sanctuary in chiang mai, 3 nights in chiang mai and then flew to Krabi and did 3 nights on Koh lanta before flying to Singapore.

Do you have any ideas in mind?

What time of year? Both countries have rainy seasons and, inconveniently, at different times of the year!
also, what kind of activities do you want to do in Thailand? Culture? Beaches? Snorkelling? Wildlife?

We'd be up for all of this. Last year we did Bangkok/Cambodia/Phuket.

We're not really limited to a particular time of year. We went in May last time. The forecast was dire, but we only had one torrential shower and the rest of the time was glorious sunshine. We'll definitely avoid the Thai New Year though. We were in Phuket for that and it was wild!

I think we definitely want to do Singapore first and then chill out after that. Big cities are great for a bit of culture and sightseeing, but they are also exhausting these days.

February should be a good month for both countries. If you head up to Chiang Mai (which I 100% recommend for culture and nature), then make sure you've left by March because that’s when the burning season starts and it can get pretty horrible. There’s a spectacular flower festival in Chiang Mai every February which is well worth scheduling into your trip, but that would probably mean Singapore in January and that’s not such a good month.

I actually hate February for all sorts of reasons, so a holiday then sounds like a good idea. I think Chiang Mai may be a bit too far north (and inland) for us though.

There's lots to do for a few days in Singapore, gardens by the bay is great and also worth spending time at the airport which is an activity in itself. Plus marina bay area. And just generally all the food! We have just got back after a week there followed by a week in Thailand (phuket for convenience as its only a very short flight from singapore and we have young children so didn't want too much travel) and stayed in the Bang Tao area which was pricy by local standards but had lovely and quiet beaches for a relaxing 2nd half of our trip. Went to an elephant santuary too which was lovely and visited phuket old town. There's a wide range of hotels in Singapore, but we stayed in one with lounge access included for a couple of days in a visit pre kids (we stayed at pullman hill street but its quite a common thing for 4/ 5 star hotels) and it was lovely as a couple as you get free food and cocktails in the evening so worth considering even if it means you split your stay across a couple of hotels.

Why Thailand and not Malaysia?

Um, because we want to go back to Thailand, but fancied adding on somewhere new - hence Singapore.

We did this recently and went to Phuket. Singapore is the best. It’s so safe, clean, the hawker stalls/food courts are amazing. We were there with kids so did the zoos (which means you drive out the city and see the landscape) and activities so no good advice for you except enjoy it. We stayed in orchard.

Agree with this, had a great day at the main zoo this time and went to the zoo river safari on our last trip and enjoyed that too. Definitely worth a visit!

Well, I've come back to eat my words!!! Having done a bit of googling I think we might decide to stick to Malaysia. Anyone been to the Banjaran Hotsprings?

Langkawi is really nice if you get a chance to go there!

ThaiSing · 20/06/2026 11:29

@LoveHearts69

We've just been looking at that based on recommendations on a previous thread! Looks lovely - definitely one for the list.
