Lille

Has anybody been? Did you like it? Any recommendations?

Having made our first trip via Eurostar visiting Paris earlier this year, we’ve figured it’s a nice easy way to do short city breaks, thought we’d start with Lille as its nearest. Looking at early September.

Yep, OP should definitely visit a Mexican chain restaurant for her short hop over to France 🙄

Good food, great service, lovely surroundings. Suits us but you prefer Brussels to Lille so we're obviously not going to like the same things.

If you are up for going further afield on a future trip, it’s easy to change at Brussels for trains to all manner of places and Cologne in Germany is just a couple of hours away.

Thank you. We do plan to do this. DH isn’t keen on Brussels, so although we are happy to travel through, we don’t plan as a destination. Might be worth an overnight stop though.

I enjoyed a weekend there. It’s not industrial in the centre. I didn’t explore the surrounding areas.

Enjoy Lille first, it's a lovely town. (I always like to pop in to Le Dernier Bar Avant la Fin du Monde - make sure you visit the toilets!)

Cologne is also well worth a visit - you can book it all the way through on the Eurostar website.

Also, if you don't fancy Bruges - visit Ghent. I though it was much nicer.

I visit the toilets everywhere I go 🤣
