We have 10 days in Mallorca booked for August, 2 adults and 2 tweens. This article seems to say online banking records not sufficient evidence but for the last few years, I haven't bothered with foreign currency and just taken a fee free debit card to withdraw cash (if needed)and pay contactless. Help!

The new financial requirements for Brits entering Spain this summer

The country has quietly upped the amount tourists visiting the country must have during their stay - and may even deny entry to those who can't prove they have the means to fund their holiday.

Isn’t it much more likely if you are a single traveller rather than family clearly on holiday

Don't believe ANYTHING in the Daily Mail.

Thanks everyone for your comments, you are right I should stop reading The Daily Fail! We've had a pretty rubbish year as a family, very much in need of this holiday and it would just be my current bad luck that we would be refused entry because I had dropped another ball! And breathe!!!

No big surprise that not a single person has responded to say they've experienced this. The Fail has a lot to answer for.

You'll be grand, @MamaRolywe flew into Mallorca at the weekend and weren't asked, either at the egate or at the desk (children under 12 can't use the egates). Have a wonderful holiday, it's blooming hot!

Do prepare yourself for the EES queues and you land in the evening and if you are going with children though....that is real!

The issue is as we are now a third country a lot of these things COULD be asked by EU countries. I have travelled to the EU a fair bit since we formally Brexited, the only time I got asked why I was there and to show my return tickets was by a rather over zealous border guard at Koln-Bonn airport (I caused confusion by flying in from London but planning to get the train back via Brussels).

When my partner and I who are child free, went through the biometric system in Seville in April we were herded to separate machines so you can't even go through the border system with your partner and it doesn't ask you if you are travelling with anyone. But we are currently in Poland and when we arrived in Gdansk on Saturday there was no question machine, just went to a passport booth together and individually had photos and fingerprints done without the border guard asking us anything.

Funny you mention Gdansk, When I went there, the border guard made a big show of counting all the stamps in my passport, writing them down and presumably adding up how many days I'd been in the EU over the past 180 days.

I know that technically they can do this, and a big benefit of EES is that it will be done automatically, but I've never seen anyone look at the stamps before, and always wondered, in pre-EES days, how they'd ever know if someone had exceeded the 90 days in 180 as it would take too much time to properly check, especially if you're at one of those Spanish airports that's just had 3 plane loads of British holidaymakers arrive in the last 5 minutes so there's a massive queue.

I know at some airports in EU/Schengen land border authorities always swiped your passport through a reader, both inbound and outbound, way before EES, so I've always assumed (dangerous I know) that there been the facility to check the likes of 90/180 to some degree if there was the need, even if only at a local level.
