Any tips for an AL hotel in Mauritius for last week of October for parents and 2 x dc in early twenties - has to be half term due to work. Looking for water based activities and some night time entertainment in the hotel. Haven’t been to Mauritius before. Budget is flexible.

I've been to 3 resorts: le prince st Maurice, Oberoi and Victoria Beachcomber. Last one more cost effective, first two proper luxury. My personal favourite was the Oberoi but all were nice and would definitely recommend.

Le Prince Maurice. Have been there but it’s £££. Hopefully Bruce the shark is still there.

I'd head somewhere with a bit of something going on outside the resort. We've stayed at the Oberoi (pre kids) and Ravenala Attitude (with kids) which are next door to each other and both lovely but quite isolated. With adult children I'd consider somewhere on Flic en Flac, Sugar Beach is lovely.

DD (then 19) and I have stayed at Sugar Beach and Long Beach and both were lovely, excellent for watersports, food and drink.

Look at Shandrani, very close to the airport and lots of activities included.

Thanks everyone, there don’t seem to be any BA flights available, the options are Emirates via Dubai or direct with Mauritius airways - has anyone flown direct with Mauritius?

That's weird, BA do fly there direct, not every day but I think 4/5 times per week. I have flown with air Mauritius though and it was fine.

OneZanyCat · 13/06/2026 21:08

I flew direct with Air Mauritius - flights were fine, seats at back on way out were fine, sat in the middle of a three on way back and was tight so if did it again would pay for extra legroom seats or go to last row again if in economy. They gave a nice little bag of things, like mini toothpaste, eye mask.

We had Emirates booked this Easter for Sri Lanka and had to cancel holiday due to the war, all got refunded but would not book any route via Dubai now. We are going to Sri Lanka directly now.

Sugar Beach was also linked to La Pirogue (that's where the watersports part was) and you could eat at any of their restaurants as well as ones in Sugar Beach. There was one on the beach.

sailingsunshine · 15/06/2026 19:20

Thanks all again, I’m thinking of Long Beach with Air Mauritius. There are no BA seats available and Sugar Beach is a lot more expensive. Has anyone done this option of a direct flight and Long Beach for 7 nights?

We did 8 nights flying Air Mauritius and stayed half at Long Beach, half at Sugar Beach. There wasn't a massive difference between Long Beach and Sugar Beach, my DD preferred Long Beach, I preferred Sugar Beach but only as our room there was closer to the beach and the food. Long beach the accommodation was bigger. Both were excellent and similar included activities, similar quality food / drink.

@OneZanyCat, thanks so much, that’s really good to hear.

Long beach is on the slightly windier coast, Sugar Beach / La Pirogue on the Wes coast has spectacular sunsets.
