Ideas for a solo wellness break or short holiday on a budget

Having an absolute nightmare here!

I'm completely burnt out with work and just exhausted physically and emotionally. I do have a holiday coming up next week which will be fairly relaxing but still with a family member, and I could really do with spending some time just on my own away from everything and everyone (I have ASD). 40 year old, single woman.

I did a UK retreat last year which was really helpful for my mental wellbeing and I'd like to do something similar again either in the UK or abroad but I'm really struggling. They're either incredibly yoga-heavy - I'm looking for more meditation/wellness based - or really really expensive for a single person. I'm in the North East and would be willing to travel but anything over 3 hours or so would need to be accessible by public transport.

I was hoping to get some sun at the same time though so thought about a retreat, city break, or even beach holiday in Europe. Again I'm struggling! I just want somewhere where either I can be fairly isolated or I can get lost amongst other people, 3-4 nights, and with flights from Newcastle, Teesside, Leeds, East Mids or Manchester.

So choices are

  1. Retreat
  2. City Break
  3. Beach Break

Budget is around £600 SC or up to £1000 if all inclusive... HELP

Look at Ensana in Budapest which is relatively inexpensive (not sure about the other ones)

I came to say exactly the same thing! I stayed this time last year at the Ensana hotel on Margaret Island and i visited a couple of the thermal baths which were really inexpensive and beautiful. Also did dome shopping and ate amazing food. Budapest was really safe and the public transport was great and easy to use with the app.

I would just look for an adults only hotel with a spa somewhere quiet and whatever is easy to get to from your preferred airport of the ones you've listed. Try looking for packages with Jet2 or Easyjet, although it would probably be slightly cheaper to do it independently.

'Retreat' seems to be just a way to add a lot of cost to a holiday where there's likely to be communal eating and group activities, which it sounds like you don't want? For the meditation aspect, you could just do this with online guides/Calm app etc?

I'm sure Ensana hotels would be lovely, they owned the Buxton Crescent until it was taken over by Champneys but the spa is amazing so a fabulous option if you decide to stay in the UK, probably less than 3 hours drive and likely much quicker to drive than the train. But Budapest would probably be a good choice too.

Ooh sorry to hijack but please do share any tips as am planning to go soon!
