Tips for booking a family safari in Tanzania and Zanzibar

We are considering a holiday for 14-16 nights to Tanzania for safari and then onto Zanzibar for some relaxation next year with our sons who will be 9 and 10. Anyone have any tips or things to consider before booking? Any good recommendations for tour operators for a family?

We LOVED Tanzania and had a few other activities when there - kayaking on Lake Manyara, tree top walk, but the the fly camp and then the migration camp were the absolute highlights. It was fantastic to be in the middle of nowhere, and also to be in the middle of the migrating herd. It was other worldly.

I also loved stone town and could have stayed longer. We were on the far side of the island for a few nights then had a night in stone town before leaving, but could have had 2.

I think I’d have liked to do a balloon ride too but didn’t get the chance.

We went with Steppes travel and Ilona there is super knowledgable having been a guide there for many years.

I’m glad so to hear you loved it, it looks such an exciting holiday. I’ll have a look at Steppes thank you!

We used Beyond the Plains for exaclty this trip last year with similar aged kids Tanzania then Zanzibar. Honestly couldn't fault them, they handled everything and the guides were brilliant with the boys. Highly recommend getting a quote from them

The guides in general come with the lodges booked. You need to read up about what animals are where when you intend to go. The wildebeeste migrate to Kenya in our summer for example. I’d use a specialist wildlife company like wildlife worldwide or expert Africa for the safari element. Steppes are good at safaris too.

Thank you for the recommendations. Yes I feel like I need to do some research. It does sound like an amazing experience though
