Looking for somewhere to go South of France, flying into Nice. Probably for 1-2 weeks in July with a 13 and 16 year old. Ideally somewhere not overrun but that has facilities and places we can go on day trips. Have looked At Eurocamp, and also Sandaya and going to look at Yelloh but looking for tried and tested suggested of specific places. Want decent quality accommodation, not to be swarming with people. Realise we have left it late and I'm overwhelmed with the choices.

If you don't want 'swarming with people' you might want to avoid the Cote d'Azur in July!

I know….sadly it’s my husband and children’s choice as I chose and planned last year

not overrun

The whole of Europe is overrun in summer months.

Just go and enjoy it!

If you’re willing to go a little further west and fly to Perpignan or Carcasonne, I can highly recommend the Grand Hotel du Lido in Argeles sur Mere. We’ve stayed there several times and it was truly excellent. Stunning service, exquisite food, a nice pool, 2 mins walk to a sandy beach, and some nightlife a short walk away along the beach. Parking available if you want to hire a car and explore further. It has never been heaving when we have been there, and we have often been the only English-speaking visitors. I almost hesitate to recommend it in case it gets over-run with Brits!

It is part of a small, family-run chin, so if you don’t want to go so far west you might like to look at their website anyway, in case they have hotels in locations you would prefer.

Previously, about 15 years ago, we have stayed at some Pierre et Vacances apartments including Les Calanques des Issambres, this is about five minutes from the little port for short trips to St Tropez, Ile de Porquerolles etc. If you had two weeks you could stay one week there and one week at one of their apartments near Nice, Villefranche or Menton for trips to Nice, Monaco, Villefrance and over the border to Italy.

Will you have a car? And are you happy to drive? I’d personally try to find a villa with a pool near a small town a little bit in land and use that as a base.

My suggestion above works with no car, although we have driven down, eg. Via the alps and stayed in villas, gites and campsites inland.

Juan les Pins / Antibes are lovely - best beaches in the area. The train line runs along the coast so easy to get to Monaco/ Cannes etc There is a lot to do in Nice itself. Booking.com has a number of apartments, some with pools.
