Advice requested re visiting Legoland in Denmark

We are looking to possibly go to Legoland Billund and the Lego house, and possibly visit some of the surrounding areas. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding this? Where to stay? Is in resort worth it? And would Easter holidays 2027 be a good time of year to go?

Easter 2027 falls in March, which in my opinion is too early to be considering a trip to Billund. It risks being cold and rainy (or even snowy) and a miserable experience.

Far better to look at May Bank Holiday when the weather is likely to be much warmer and when you'll also be able to visit the excellent WOW Park in Billund as well as Legoland. Lego House is easily the best of the attractions in Billund and requires an entire day to get the best out of the visit.

Accommodation options are the various Lego hotels, the hotel at the airport or Lalandia, which also has the indoor water activities. There are also a few small B&B places to stay, but overall, Billund is a very small town completely dominated by all things Lego. If you have a car there are other places to visit in the area - e.g. Jelling (for all things Viking), the lakes, Tollund Man and AQUA at Silkeborg, Aarhus (Denmark's second city), Ribe, the North Sea museum in Esbjerg, Okolariet in Vejle, Koldinghus Castle and much more.

There are already many threads on MN about Legoland and Billund - see the "Similar Threads" linked below - and also numerous YouTube videos posted by families that have visited.

Following with interest. I may take DS in October half-term, but worried it will be too cold. Also hoping to visit Lelandia and Copenhagen.

Hi I’m off to Copenhagen and Billund in the summer hols this year!

Billund is small and everything is close together. Commonly people stay in a Legoland hotel or in Lalandia (which includes an indoor water park which may be of interest to visit even if you stay at Legoland since you can get a discount I believe).

Lalandia in late August is working out at £162 for a Design Plus (3 double bedrooms) since I booked early and got a night free - for Denmark that is incredibly cheap.

We are flying LHR to Copenhagen on the way out; then hiring a car to drive across to Billund although it’s also easy to do on FlixBus. We fly home Billund to LHR.

There’s a few good FB groups for Billund and Legoland Denmark, worth checking out.

We are in Billund for 5 nights and our flight home is around 10pm so we’ll make the most of 5.5 days.

We will do:

  • arrival day;”visit the supermarket to stock up for the week, and use the Lalandia pool
  • day 1: Lego House including Lego Masters and Mini Chef
  • Day 2: Wow Park (this might be too cold and muddy in April though)
  • Day 3 Legoland
  • Day 4 possibly drive to Ribe and visit the Viking town recreation; alternatively visit Vejle or Aarhus
  • Day 5 Lalandia pool

Depending on the age of your kids, Lalandia has indoor activities like a small climbing wall, trampolines, ropes course etc. So if April was your only option, you might benefit from buying the “gold wristbands” that let you do all these things for an inclusive price (the pool and soft play are free if you’re staying in Lalandia). You probably would not need a hire car at all; a trip to another town can be done on public transport.

We did this early May and it was great. The weather was great, although I think we got lucky. We arrived Sunday and stayed two nights at the Lego Castle hotel (visiting the park on the Monday and Tuesday). On the Tuesday night, we moved to a cabin at Lalandia and were there 3 nights. We spent a day at the Lego House and a day using the Aquadome and soft play at Lalandia.

I’d be prepared to spend a lot on food. Legoland and Lalandia are outside of the main centre of Billund and it’s a 30 minute walk or 15 minute bus to the centre. After full days of walking the park, we didn’t have the energy to go into town, and the bus was around £12 round trip for three of us. The food at Legoland/Lalandia is very pricey (the buffet at the Lego Castle hotel was around £120 for two adults and a child).

If we did it again (or Lego Hotel wasn’t in budget), we’d happily have stayed at Lalandia the whole time. That way you can save money on food by cooking in the cabin and you have a fridge for packed lunch food.

We went last year and had a great time. There is a Facebook group Billund for Brits that has loads of useful info which we used to plan our visit.

We stayed at Lalandia as wanted to spend a couple of days doing the activities there. We loved the aqua dome.

For getting about we walked everywhere other than the airport which we got a taxi.

If you like outdoors Wow Park is worth a visit.

We went in May half term as it is not local holidays then and was very quiet. We stayed in Legoland village, in one of the cabins. Just a few minutes walk from Legoland itself. We flew, got a bus from the airport, and walked into town for Lego house and shops etc, although lalandia has a well stocked shop.

Re: food, the price of which is a bit more expensive than the UK.

In Legoland, Lego House and WOW Park it is acceptable to take a packed lunch and there are picnic tables set aside just for this - Danish families do this all the time.

When in Denmark don't miss out on a typical Danish hot dog from one of the many mobile stands (pølsevogn or "Skinkekutter") that you'll find in most towns. A "pølse med det hele" - a hot dog “with everything” - has to be tried, preferably washed down by a Cocio chocolate drink.

Thanks all. Looks like we could do may half term instead for better weather. I'll also look at the similar threads.
