Public transport in Venice at night - will it be a nightmare?

I am starting to worry about it. We arrive at Treviso at around 8pm. I have done the bus from there to the centre before and know that will be fine but it's how long it will take and what comes next that's worrying me. I know we can check in late at our AirBnB so that's ok but I'm worried about getting to it. Google says it's accessible by vaporetto then a short walk but I'm worried about doing that at night. I don't know what time the vaporetto run until. I've looked at water taxis and see I'd be looking at around 150 Euros, which I can cope with but I'm still worried about finding one and then finding the apartment from there, or getting ripped off and it costing even more.

Should I be considering changing flights if possible or teens or me going earlier? Or will it be fine? Thanks for any advice!

I would change your flight to be earlier to be honest - if checking into a hotel that is generally easier for taxis etc and there is a front office to call if the there is problems but an airbnb at night in Venice doesn’t sound easy to me … but it was 10 years since I was there I could be wrong but I’d rather be safe than sorry

Why are you worried about a vaporetto and a short walk? It will be fine! There'll be lots of tourists about, and you're not even on your own.
I have to say though, water taxis are brilliant, and your kids will love it - just book in advance.

It will be fine - it won’t even be dark when you arrive! Bus from Treviso to Piazzale Roma, then vaporetto. Even if you’re late there’s the Nighy vaporettot line N which will get you closer to wherever you are staying.
My top tip would be get a 24 hr vaporetto ticket and next day take the vaporetto to murano and burano for the day!

have a great trip

You’ll be absolutely fine! Which area is your accommodation in?

Good advice about the 24 hour ticket, use it the next day to visit Murano, Burano and Lido.

I don’t think this will be an issue. Vaparetto run all night, admittedly it’s a reduced service but, unless you’re staying in a somewhat unusual spot, you won’t be that far from a stop. I think the service switches to the night service at about 11:30pm

It's been a few years since I was in Venice but I think you'd be fine accessing transport. My concern would be finding your apartment at night in poor lighting. You need excellent directions and contact information.

When is your trip?

Do you speak any Italian?

Murano and Burano are definitely worth visiting from there too.

Have a great time! You will love it.

Thanks everyone - I hadn't realised the vaporetti run all night. That's good. I'll probably leave it then. DS, 17, did say he loves the idea of arriving at night and in a boat and he couldn't believe I wanted to change it. Hopefully I will get very detailed instructions from the Airbnb owner and he apparently checks people in personally so hopefully will be contactable 'live' if we do get lost. My dc lead us around every European city we visit using Google maps and I tend to be just following them around these days so hopefully they will get us there. I feel Venice is harder than most places to navigate though and feel like I did a lot of wandering in a semi-lost state when I visited 20 years ago and don't want to be doing that at night and with suitcases!

We arrived in Venice after 11pm and had no issue getting a water taxi. St Mark's Square still had 100s of people in it after midnight.

Put the 17yo in charge and enjoy your trip! I would recommend backpacks rather than wheeled suitcases given all the steps and bumpy pavements, by the way.
