A few hours in Malaga

DH and I are flying into Malaga on Sunday lunchtime and want to have lunch and a quick look round before heading north to our apartment in Allhaurin. I broke my ankle a few months ago and still can’t walk very far comfortably, and am also not great in the heat. We have thought about leaving our luggage at the airport, getting the train in and spending a couple of hours in the marina area. Any other ideas? Places to eat that have shade?

I know that the Picasso Tapas Bat has a large shaded seating area. It’s in the centre, right next to the Picasso museum. It does great food and has a fantastic atmosphere, unlike most of the cafes and restaurants in the marina which tend to be inauthentic, poor quality and full of cruise passengers.

Picasso museum is great - nice and shady too - followed by gazpacho

Most restaurants have shade and some whole streets have shades. There's also a big park with lots of trees behind the marina that's nice to hang out in so I'm sure you'll find somewhere nice along the way. The bus station is next to the train station so you can get the bus back if needed.

That sounds great, thank you.

Do book tickets for the Picasso museum in advance if you’re planning on going

If you're just going to do one thing I'd do the Alcazaba (a massive 8th-century Moorish fortress). Only very basic cafes to eat there if I remember correctly but Bodega El Pimpi has open air seating oppposite the entrance (think you have to go down a side stret for the entrance).

Second this.. we loved the Alcazaba

The Alcazaba is great, but it's got loads of steps, which the OP might struggle with.

Yes, sadly I would at the moment. Another time!
