Has anyone been? DH has just booked us a week there in July.

Yes! I went 13 years ago. If I remember it was a small town with a port. The port was full of mega yachts and there was a good vibe. There wasn't a sandy beach but a kind of concrete edge of the water like a pool but THE WATER!!! Ive never seen anything as clear. I remember we stayed somewhere hilly but it was fine. We took a boat to Dubrovnik one day. I really enjoyed it!

DoreenDoors · 20/05/2026 17:27

Sorry, I hardly remember! But we really liked it.

parkezvous · 20/05/2026 17:28

Oh water sounds great! I’ve read about the boat to Dubrovnik so we will deffo do that. Am V excited! Thx

We went 3 years ago. It’s lovely just very small. You can walk all around it. Like a previous poster said, no beach but bathing platforms. Very rocky, you need water shoes.

We did a few boat trips but you can also get the bus to Dubrovnik.

It’s nice, I’m not sure if I would do a whole week there but it’ll be perfectly possible to fill the time. You can get a boat to Dubrovnik easily. There is an old town to explore with shops and restaurants (and a lot of yachts), and a wooded headland with a nice walking path around it beyond the old town. There are some great swimming areas off the walking path -rocky but with loungers for hire and showers. Beautiful water as pp says. Recommend the restaurant “Rokotin” by one of the swimming areas.

There’s also a sandy ish beach round to the right past the old town, although the water isn’t as clear there as I recall, quite a few boats.

If you can - do a trip to the small islands of Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan. Not sure if it’s possible in a day though. Lokrum island is closer and might be more do able.

We stayed there for 5 days after traveling around Croatia two years ago. Stayed at a beautiful hotel..Hotel Supetar, one of the best hotels for service I've ever stayed at.
The restaurants were expensive and not over whelming to memory. Pizza and drinks for 4 at lunch was about £100, G+T £9. Take beach shoes, lots of urchins and rocks but crystal clear water. We took the bus to Dubrovnik and hired a small boat one day and went to Supetar Island.

This all sounds lovely. Thanks all.

I’ve stayed there four times, at the Albatros and the Hotel Cavtat. It’s one of my favourite places. Very, very close to the airport, so close in fact that on one occasion there were 27 minutes from me getting off the plane to checking in at the hotel.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 20/05/2026 21:31

Yes, we went there. Lovely but small, as others have said. It is within easy reach of Dubrovnik and we also did day trips to Mostar in Bosnia and Kotor in Montenegro.

Tellmeagain · 20/05/2026 21:31

We stayed in Cavtat and loved having a relaxing break in the sun with a port to wander down to for drinks and a meal, with the benefit of quick boats to Dubrovnik for days there. Enjoyed wine tasting at the various little bars in Dubrovnik!

pilates · 20/05/2026 21:39

Yes it’s very nice 👌

Nightingalemoonshine · 20/05/2026 21:41

I went almost 4o years ago, before the war. It was lovely then! There were a lot of crabs along the rocks and the water was crystal clear.

theresnolimits · 20/05/2026 21:44

Yes, been three times and would go again. Great for Dubrovnik, hire a boat, lovely restaurants although not cheap on the harbour front. We walked round the headland and found some nice sun loungers on a stony beach to hire if you want easier access to the sea. Water shoes essential as people have said. Lovely people, safe and clean.

FinallyPregnant2022 · 20/05/2026 22:12

Its nice but small - very close to Dubrovnik

Sakura7 · 20/05/2026 22:17

Been a few times about 10-15 years ago, and then again recently.

It's very pretty, lovely walks around the headland, some great restaurants too. It's quite small but perfect for a relaxing holiday, and you can get a bus or boat into Dubrovnik.

It definitely felt busier on my my recent visit so word must be getting out. We stayed in the Hotel Croatia which I'd recommend.

fizzyroselemonade · 20/05/2026 22:17

Yes, about three or four times. Would go back in a heartbeat

AngelsWithSilverWings · 20/05/2026 22:46

It's a very pretty and buzzy town. We took the boat to Dubrovnik and enjoyed the day out - the walls were hotter than hell though!

We didn't love the all inc hotel we stayed in so spent a lot of time in the town rather than in the hotel. The restaurants and bars in the town were far superior to anything being offered as part of our package.

Same here. We went to Cavtat and other places on that coast in the 80s when it was Yugoslavia. I remember it was brilliant for snorkeling.
Wonder how it's changed? I did revisit Dubrovnik a few years ago and it was interesting to see the new rooves after the war damage.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 21/05/2026 19:06

Yes it’s beautiful. We visited for a day when staying in Croatia and it was so memorable. Small though. But beautiful. I love Croatia.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 21/05/2026 19:06

….Staying in Dubrovnik that should say.

Cherrycolacubes · 21/05/2026 19:58

It’s lovely but pretty small and consequently you can feel a bit of a captive market if you don’t have a car, so do venture out on some day trips.

The one mini-market near the harbour has long queues to pay and is expensive. There is a good range of restaurants, if you are going for a week you’ll probably eat in them all by the time you go home. Yacht watching is fun!

fussychica · 23/05/2026 18:33

We did a wonderful Croatian road trip about 7 years ago finishing up in Cavtat. It's very pretty, hilly, quite small, very expensive, easy to get to Dubrovnik on the water taxi. Plenty of aircraft noise. Overall we liked it but probably wouldn't go back, as like almost anywhere nice it has become very busy.

MyballsareSandy2015 · 25/05/2026 10:46

One of my favourite places … on our way home now.

It’s absolutely stunning, the coastline, the water. Lovely restaurants and bars overlooking the sea.

Le Boheme is special for lunch or dinner. I found it all cheaper than the UK but I do live in London.

Go onto “get my guide” .. some great boat trips and wine tasting tours etc.

PicaK · 25/05/2026 19:48

I'm on a cavtat fb group as I'm going in the summer. Main advice seems to be watch out for black spikey sea anenomes, all the restaurants are great, Michael is the man who organises the trip, avoid the walls in Dubrovnik when the tourist pour off the cruise ships, book the Panorama restaurant 1st row seats now.

Ta2025 · 25/05/2026 21:00

You have to go over to Lokrum for the day if you get the chance. A beautiful island with the best sea swimming ever!
