What happens to checked luggage during passport queues in Gran Canaria?

We are heading to Gran Canaria soon, package holiday with TUI. I realise that when we land, we will have to go through the new finger print etc process and there may be queues.

But what happens to everyone’s suitcases while they are doing all this? Does it stay on the carousel for an hour or so (or worse) or is it all removed, and if so, is it easy to locate?

They just stay on the carousel going around and around and around for hours. They'll lump a few flights on the same carousel.
Take snacks and drinks, it's hell.

You won’t be separated from others on the flight! You will all be waiting for passport control! Of course your luggage will be waiting for you. Where else could it go. You might even find it’s still not there!

Don't worry too much, when I went a couple of months ago they had lots of machines to take fingerprints and it didn't take that long.

I'm wondering if they've given up with fingerprints in Spain.

I went a few weeks ago and the fingerprint part didn't work and I was sent to a manual desk.

I've just come back from another Spanish airport and was expecting to have to do the registration again but I was just sent to the egates where it only scanned my passport, not fingerprints, so who knows? But this was a very small quiet airport that was virtually empty, there was only about a dozen flights listed for the whole day.

Thank you for the replies, I feel a bit better about it now. We are due to land early evening, and didn’t want to end up getting to the hotel in the small hours!

@PinkEasterbunny I think there's every chance you'll be quite late at the resort itself.

If budget allows get a private transfer or taxi, from the airport not the TUI bus. That will save lots of time especially if you are Puerto Rico /Morgan end.

We did it a few weeks ago they separated out families with young children to go to the manned desks, then it took about half ann hour to get our plane load through. Mine wouldn't work so I had to queue again at the manned desk meanwhile DH went off and got the cases. It really wasn't too bad. We did do private transfers as we were in the south of the island and it was an evening arrival we just wanted to get there quickly.

Thank you for this - we are staying at the Sea Palm Beach in Maspalomas and part of the deal includes a private transfer

I'm off to GC soon too. Myself and DH have already registered with fingerprint etc at another airport this year. Do we still have to join the same queue? Or is there a separate one for people previously registered?

I might be wrong but the kiosks seem to be the same as the normal passport scanning ones so possibly you queue together but when you scan your passport and look at the screen that's you through, you skip the fingerprint part.
