Jet2 last minute booking, no seats with child, any experience?

Just looking at booking a last minute holiday… with Jet2 to Ibiza on Saturday.

and got through to the select seats bit, and there are no seats available for me and my daughter to be next to each other… which is expected I guess, it’s last minute. But what happens now.

I phoned up jet 2 and they said at airport they will move people who have already checked in, and received free seats next to each other.

does anyone have any experience in this?

If someone has paid for a seat & is made to move, I think they should be compensated on the spot, whether that’s by the airline or by the people making them move. It’s only fair.

This.

Ridiculous that airlines will charge you to sit together, but then can move you around anyway. They should either not charge for seat selection or not move you if you have paid for it.

There is always a disclaimer that says your seat may be changed for operational reasons. That includes allocations for people with disabilities, aircraft change, etc.

I do believe the airlines try to move those who haven’t paid for a seat first. As you say, it’s only fair.

Yes, you can (and should) definitely request a refund if you’ve paid for your seats but were moved on the day.

I was asked on my last Jet 2 flight if I would move to a seat almost at the back of the plane because a family had got on wanted/needed to sit together but not paid for any specific seats. They were saying that the check in team said once on board people would move!!

I actually refused and said I had paid for my seat and Jet 2 said I would get it back but would need to write in and claim the cost back.

All this sick bag nonsense makes me very annoyed. If you are going on Saturday then presumably you know there will be a risk you aren’t sitting together and took the chance?

This.
Terrible that people are guilt/tripped into moving because of poor planning/entitledness of others.

Last year I was on a low cost airline and a family got on who clearly thought they would chance their arm and it all came out, my child will be sick, they dont like sitting next to strangers and even its illegal to have children sitting seperately.

There was a couple who were clearly the target of these chancers. The man was approached by the cabin crew and he said he would move BUT only if they refunded him the cost of his reservation. The crew said that wasnt possible be he said with the card machine surely they could do a refund. They were insisting that he write into Head Office and he would definitely get his money back.

I am sick of these stingy chancers looking for a freebie off the back of someone else

Did you have the option to pay for seats? If so you should have taken that option to sit together.
Flying is a lifestyle choice so be prepared to pay for that choice.
If there weren’t seats still available together then don’t book that flight…

Did you book it in the end @Qwerty93 ? And did it all work out ok assuming you did?

Don't be absurd. Booking a few days in advance just means that many of the passengers will already have checked in (check in opens 28 days prior with Jet2). Given that we're currently outside of school holidays, 20+ years of experience in the travel industry tells me that less than half of those people will have paid to select a specific seat. There are limited options left on the seating plan because they've been randomly allocated to people that have already checked in. If needs be one of those people will have been moved.

Only on Mumsnet does EVERYONE pay to choose their seats, even when travelling without children. In my reality it's maybe 20% of passengers on an average flight (and the majority of those are booking extra legroom) more in school holidays but still not everyone by some margin.
