Has anyone used one of those underseat compression bags that suck the air out?

I’m off for a long weekend to Spain and haven’t paid for any luggage meaning I only have the underseat backpack.
Im quite big, my clothes are big and I overpack at the best of times!
Has anyone used one of those compression/vacuum travel bags? I looked at Vault bags but reviews are mixed
Thanks

Yes dh and I both have them for short breaks on Ryanair. The ones we have are good, they do work but you need to buy a better vacuum pump thing as the ones that come with the bags are crap. We do 3 days with cold clothes and 4 days with hot climate clothes! I get a nice fuzzy feeling from avoiding paying luggage fees.

I saw a neck cushion recently on Temu that you could stuff with socks and knickers …..

I use the one way valve bags you just roll to squeeze the air out. They work really well, you don't need to carry a pump with you and if they get a good one you just need another one instead of a whole new bag.

Dontopenthetrapdoor · 05/05/2026 19:25

I have to second the one way valve bags as well. No pump required and they work really well. I used some compression bags on my last trip and they weren't nearly as good as the one way vacuum packs.

Does anyone have a link to a valve bag please?

I have sea to summit compression bags (the dry version). Which I also use for multi day hikes. I got them in Australia where they are significantly cheaper than here. But they are 10+ years old and still going strong.

Yes, I’ve used both vacuum compression backpacks and compression packing cubes and they do work quite well to give you a little extra space. For short haul flights definitely the compression backpacks are great - I have this one and had no issues with the budget airlines so far for the under-seat cabin bag!
