UK family holiday recommendations please

Im looking for a UK holiday this summer with a toddler, 6yo and a dog. Ideally somewhere with a pool and some activities for the kids. No camping or shared facilities please.

Don’t mind paying for something nice, but not keen on Spain all-inclusive prices for a self-catered cottage 😬

Any recommendations? Thanks!

I'd start by narrowing down your search to a part of the country, or at least a rough area depending on how far you're willing to drive (assuming you're driving, if not, that limits your options further)
Hoseasons, Haven, Parkdean caravan / lodges
Crieff Hydro
Bluestone
Centre parcs
Butlins (not sure if you can take dogs)
Forest holidays (no pool but you can get lodges with a hot tub)
Ribby Hall
But ultimately it would probably be cheaper to put the dog in kennels (sorry dog!) and go AI to Spain!

We your new Holiday Cottages on the Norfolk coast are great for young children, and some of the cottages can take dogs. There are separate play areas for toddlers and older children, plus indoor soft play and an indoor pool. There are some dog friendly beaches within east reach too.

ah the comment about dog friendly beaches is a good one @Forgottenmyphone as many areas don't allow dogs over the summer months!

Thank you for the suggestions. I heard good things about Ribby Hall and it’s not too far from us.

Unfortunately going abroad is not an option this year 😔

If you're "up north" then check Scotland destinations from the middle of August as their schools go back then so prices might be cheaper towards the end of the English holidays.

Why not? Ribby Hall will be more expensive

MiddleAgedDread · 05/05/2026 16:03

could be passports, not wanting to leave the dog, ill health (either themselves or eldery relatives) or unable to get travel insurance, unable to fly, visa requirements, loads of possible reasons @CountryQueen !

JustGiveMeReason · 05/05/2026 17:37

Agree it would be helpful to know which part of the Country you are in and how far you are willing to travel from there.
There are SO many beautiful places you can holiday.

What do you mean by 'no shared facilities' ?
Are you talking about having your own bathroom, or your own private beach ?

Darwin Forest in the Peak District?
There is soft play, a pool, a spa and lots of walks in the area.
Also close to Matlock Farm Park.
Might be pricey peak season though.

You could try Last Minute Holidays uk on Facebook. I'm sure you'll get many replies.

At that age my DD loved Ladram Bay in Devon and Atlantic Reach in Cornwall.

I know, could also be because she thinks it’ll be cheaper. That’s why I asked 🤪

Cofton Holidays in Devon? Its dog friendly, pool, has activities and a range of accommodation.

ay30916 · 06/05/2026 19:43

the New Forest is amazing. Very dog friendly. We usually stay in an Airbnb but there’s a site called Sandy Balls which is meant to be good if you wanted something with activities. I’ve never been there though so can’t give you any feedback on it.

Elmrise park in Llangain, Carmarthernshire is lovely - heated pool, small park and a beach a mile or so away. A beautiful part of the world and a quiet holiday park

We have spent many happy times at Ladram Bay, the coastline is so beautiful as are the river walks. Private caravans are available which give you a quieter spot on the site, away from the noisier elements (!). We have stayed here and loved ithttps://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/1627759644967538048?unique_share_id=c45aa4e4-92b6-4176-9eea-2218e92c679a&viralityEntryPoint=1&s=76
