Flights to Tokyo for next Easter

Advice please! Just looking at flights for next March/April (Easter holidays). Direct flights from London to Tokyo are approximately £8000 for my family of 4 so looking at indirect now. Indirect flights from Manchester (30 mins from me) to Tokyo via Dubai with Emirates are less than £5000. I think this is a decent price for our dates but I’m not sure?🤔 Would I be mad to book these flights given the current world situation? Booking flights via China (which are significantly cheaper 🙄) aren’t an option as lots of flights from there are being cancelled. Thank you.

You might find more choice / pricing options if you are prepared to fly from London. Ba's early morning manchester to heathrow shuttle gets to london too late to get on the BA london to tokyo morning flight.

We drove down the day before, stayed a night in an airport hotel that allowed you to pay for 2 weeks parking, flew out next morning. Flights were £350 per person cheaper

I booked return to Tokyo via China going out on Good Friday and returning 3 weeks later and it was about £750 return. That was via Beijing.
There is some stuff on social media about cancellations due to escalating tensions between Japan and China over Taiwan, but not much real life evidence.
We booked about 2 months before.
I would feel safer booking via Asia than via Middle East at the moment tbh. That mess isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Happy to fly from London if it is significantly cheaper but the prices are very similar to Manchester for indirect. I’m only 30 minutes from Manchester airport so makes sense to fly from there as it avoids any extra costs or long journeys home.

We flew Manchester to Tokyo via Helsinki last April. Booked direct with JAL.
