Summer French campsite recommendations?

I’m totally overwhelmed with choice. This is our first holiday and I don’t want to get it wrong. 2 adults (early 40s) and a 4 year old.

We don’t want an entertainment team, or too much organised fun. We’d love a simple place, but ideally with a community sort of atmosphere, maybe shared evening meals?

Heated outdoor pool, splash pad area would be a bonus. River or sea beach also a bonus. Near to activities, like cycling (but flatish with electric bikes for hire!), maybe gondola rides if in the mountains, historical sites, great food, beautiful villages, child friendly walks etc. Somewhere with farm animals on site would be lovely.

We also don’t want to take our own tent. We have a huge bell tent but we want the relaxation of staying in a pre pitched safari style tent or wooden lodge. Would really like our own bathroom too.

We want it hot, but not too hot. I’ve been looking at the Dordogne but it’s getting mixed reviews on weather. Some say it’s over 30s every day in July, and some say it’s cooler 🤷‍♀️

We’d love it to be mid to high 20s. Hot enough for shorts and t shirt without needing a cardi, but not so hot you can’t do activities.

Also trying to balance the desire for slightly cooler weather and less crowds in June, with the fact that most sites seem to only have their restaurants open in July/August. We want to be around other people a bit on site, I’d love my son to have children to play with. We just don’t want it to be heaving with people or older children (my little one is quite sensitive and wary of loud, raucous groups).

Please help with recommendations or any advice you can give!

Do you have to go in school holidays? Much less busy and can avoid the hottest summer weather if not.

Le Chatelet in Brittany is a lovely medium-sized site. No loud entertainment. There’s a small splash pool alongside the main pool. The area is flat and there’s bike hire, not sure about ebikes though.

Have a look at BabyFriendlyBotholes website - you can search by criteria and they have gite complexes that offer meals, games barns etc. You don't have to book through them necessarily.

We love it here , Navarosse plage. This site is on the edge of a beach lake which is super safe. It’s really flat and has lots of cycle tracks. You can also drive to the beach proper and Dune de Pilat.

We hired a static but they do safari tents as well.

La Grand Metairie near Carnac, South Brittany. Our now adult chn say it was the best holiday ever.

@SquigletChocolatePotato Agree Carnac area and we’ve stayed at Trinite Sur Mer. Get the ferry to St Malo and it’s an easy journey to the coast. Brittany isn’t as hot as the Dordogne and a few cloudy days are a respite! Lots to see and do and some old towns to explore. Even nearer, there are beach areas of Normandy, but we preferred Britany beaches. You will always find other families to talk to. We liked the organized play for dc. They liked it too!

Camping le Paradis in the Dordogne is lovely.

The weather can be unpredictable in south Brittany. We lived there for 20 years.

Ah great! From the website it looks the same. We just loved the laidback atmosphere in the pine trees. The bar had a great atmosphere and the play are amd goats were right there. There is a beach near by that was nicknamed Tahiti beach( St Columbus? ) and it was amazing. Free and ample parking, white sand and warm water. We went in August and it was low to mid 20s. Perfect for us ..
Carnac beach is a bit more touristy. The are is lovely, standing stones and pretty little houses. Reminded me of Cornwall but better weather.
