How much would you pay for Mauritius trip

Hello! I’m booking a trip to Mauritius. Have a healthy budget (I think!) for me, DH and 6 year old DS. How much should I expect to pay for a package in October half term holidays (UK)? Seeing packages for flights, 4/5 star hotel and full board for around £8k. 10 nights. Would you pay this?? I don’t really travel much so can’t tell if I’m just crap at searching for deals and overpaying but if this is the norm now in terms of prices and people actually pay this much then l will just go for it as I’ve always wanted to go here and it is a special trip for us . Thanks!

I think we paid 5-6k for the three of us 3 years ago in August. That was for 9 days and booked in the BA sale. With how prices have risen I'd say that seems roughly similar in value. We absolutely loved it, it wasn't as hot as Greece etc at that time of year (still mid 20's) but the sea was warm and beautiful and we especially loved seeing the giant tortoises at the nature park.

@BewareoftheLambsthanks! I think I’m going to go for it. Just wasn’t sure if I was being crazy.

Expensive, long haul beach holidays are where I personally draw the line. I just don’t see the point in flying all that way to do something you could just as easily do in Europe to be honest! When travelling 12 hours I want to be out sightseeing and adventuring, not just relaxing. I know plenty of families who used to go to Mauritius etc with young DC and felt the same way - it wasn’t much more than an expensive, far away beach. When DC were younger I also put an emphasis on only travelling to locations within proximity of good medical care - Mauritius would concern me on this front.

That's a shame, we loved exploring Mauritius and found there was much more to it than just sea and sand. I suppose it just depends what you choose to do when you are there.

I agree completely- there’s a lot to do in Mauritius and Im finding Europe pretty expensive for what you get too in uk school holidays.

Yes, our Mauritius trip was cheaper than the equivalent in Greece during the school holidays.

I was looking at Mauritius for Oct half term with BA and was about 10k for the all inclusive hotel I wanted. We are going to St Lucia instead for £7k.

we always go out and about exploring but all inc suits us for the bottomless pit stomachs of DS and DH.

DH and I paid about £4000 for a week AI earlier this year but it wasn’t school holidays so that doesn’t sound ridiculous. A quick look on Virgin Holidays give a range of £6000-£10000 for 4*+ HB and AI.

Thanks everyone! This has been really helpful. Will start a separate thread now so I can get help deciding between resorts! X

I haven't been to Mauritius but for comparison we went to Jamaica for 7 nights at Easter in the school hols, the all inclusive hotel prices were £6,500 to £7500 but that was for 4 people not 3. So for 10 nights would have been comparable with your Mauritius prices. I booked everything separately in the end, as I wanted to stay in a much smaller hotel, and we spent £8,000 total including all our meals and transfers.
