Having second thoughts about a shared villa holiday

We booked a week away with some friends. Sharing a huge villa with lovely private gardens and swimming pool. Near the beach etc. Only a week and all paid up front and not too expensive, maybe £1,000 each with flights (Mauritius).

But we are having second thoughts about this trip. We just came back from a week there and had bad weather and went with dh’s sister and bro in law who argued all week and wouldn’t eat any food we suggested!

That seems a bit mad. I mean, your friends aren't your SIL and BIL who argued and wouldn't eat, and one lot of bad weather doesn't mean you'll get a second, though it's not clear to me what anyone would book two separate week-long holidays in the same place within a short time period..?.

Surely, you're committed to the second holiday now, anyway, if you've paid up front?

We are going (7 of us) to a Spanish villa tomorrow, all family, not expecting any rows; at least we had none in the past.
I think when the weather is bad when sun has been expected, people can get a bit crabby, and if they do, going off somewhere for a few hours to get a break can sometimes help.

The logic of your question, though, is that if your sister-in-law and her husband had not argued and had not refused your food suggestions, then you would’ve come back saying how wonderful it was and how much you are looking forward to the holiday with your friends. It’s a bit logical.

Why not chat through with your friends, now, how you can make the holiday go well for all of you? Check what your mutual expectations are?

Yes, we go to Mauritius every other week too, and sometime it’s good and sometimes not. Hope that helps with your decision as to whether to throw away your £1000 deposit.

Believe me the rows if you go will be nothing compared to the rows if you pull out now deposits are down!

seriously give it a go. It could work out brilliantly, you could become (in the words of Marge Simpson) “the kind of family who is invited to vacation with other families” 😂
