A holiday which involves outdoor activities with other families - any ideas?

I would really like to do a holiday that involves meeting new people and probably doing some kind of fun activities with them - maybe camping or a kind of outward bound type thing?
I'm getting a bit bored with going away as a nuclear family - would like the stimulation of meeting people and think it would be fab for the boys to get to know a gang of children and do some fun activities with them. Don't want to pay the earth for a fancy 'explore the world' type holiday.

Any thoughts? Or is this a weird idea?

Try alpine holidays either at a Kinderhotel. Kidhotel or with a company like Esprit. PGL do family activity holidays at thier centres and Youth Hostel Association.

Lizs, do you have any links to kinderhotels or kidhotels? Googling seems to bring up a rather random selection!
Thanks
PGL looks promising, lower age limit 6 though.

Kidshotel We've done the Alphuebel in Saas Fee (summer and winter) - the resort itself has a great programme of activities for kids(Circus, walks, climbing) and a high ropes course from 1m10 tall - the hotel in Lugano which probably isn't what you are after, and the one in Engelberg. Kinderhotels advertise on MN

Fab - more ideas!
How old were your children when you did the Devon one?

Erm - I think maybe 10 and 8? The children in the group ranged from 6 to 14.
